ABSTRACT
This study included sixty patients with chronic liver disease [CLD] and twenty healthy controls of comparable age and sex. The duplex study of portal vein revealed a significant increase in cross- sectional area in the patients groups compared with the controls. Also, a significant reduction in portal vein velocity in patients than the controls was found and only a significant increase in portal venous flow in group III compared with the controls. Congestion index was increased in all patients groups compared with the controls. On comparing group I versus group II or group III, there was only a significant increase in portal venous flow in group III versus group I, but congestion index was significantly increased in groups II and III, respectively, versus group I
