ABSTRACT
Fundamento: la deglución anormal es uno de los hábitos bucales deformantes que más aparece en la población infantil. Objetivo: profundizar en el comportamiento, características clínicas y etiopatogenia de la deglución anormal. Desarrollo: se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica actualizada de diferentes documentos, con el con respecto al comportamiento, características clínicas y etiopatogenia de la deglución anormal. La misma pretende ampliar los conocimientos del personal de estomatología sobre el tema, hacer énfasis en la necesidad de intensificar la labor educativa desde edades tempranas, para prevenir en la comunidad infantil su aparición. Conclusiones: este hábito puede persistir desde el brote de los dientes temporales, asociarse a la respiración bucal, causar trastornos articulatorios, malformación de las arcadas dentarias y el paladar, alterar el tono labial y la postura corporal general, siendo por todo lo antes expuesto una de las principales causas de maloclusiones.
Background: abnormal deglutition is one of deforming oral habits that appears the most in the infantile population. Objective: to deepen in the behavior, clinical characteristics and etiopathogeny of abnormal deglutition. Development: an updated bibliographical research of different documents, with regard to the behavior, clinical characteristics and etiopathogeny of abnormal deglutition was conducted. The present work is intended for increasing the odontology personnel's knowledge on the topic, to make emphasis in the necessity of intensifying the educational work from early ages, to prevent in the infantile community its appearance. Conclusions: this habit may persist from the temporary teeth bud, to associate to oral breathing, to cause articulatory disorders, malformation of dental arcades and palate, to alter the labial muscle tone and corporeal posture, which is one of the main malocclusion causes.
