ABSTRACT

Doses of titanium trichloride (1/10th and 1/5th of LD50) were administered once and daily to pregnant rats to assess their effect on embryonic development. 1/5th dose of TiCl3 administered once orally on 1st, 2nd and 3rd day post-coitum. Similarly 1/10th of LD50 was administered daily. Results revealed that 1/10th LD50 dose of TiCl3 was more effective during pre-implantation period as number of 4 and 8-celled embryos decreased as compared to 1/5th. Delayed hatching of the blastocysts on day 5 was registered in TiCl3 treated dam.

ABSTRACT

Effect of hexane extract of Ferula jaeschkeana has been studied on corpora lutea of adult cyclic guinea-pigs. Administration of extract showed duration dependent luteolytic changes in the corpora lutea. Its administration for first three days from the onset of estrus caused significant decrease in the diameter of corpora lutea in the ovary at day 10 of cycle. Ovarian wet weight, proteins and glycogen contents were decreased while the activity of acid phosphatase in the ovary was increased. These luteolytic changes in the ovary have also been observed in the histological findings. Administration of extract for other durations (4-6, 7-9 or 10-12 of cycle) did not cause any change at 10th and 16th day.

ABSTRACT

The effect of 50% ethanolic and benzene extracts of Artobotrys odoratissimus Linn., a potent antiestrogenic plant on uterine acid and alkaline phosphatase activity has been studied in adult rats. Both the extracts decreased the alkaline phosphatase activity in the uterus of intact and ovariectomized rats (P less than 0.001) but elevated the acid phosphatase activity (P less than 0.001). 50% ethanolic extract acts at low dose levels; however its activity decreases as the dose is increased. Benzene extract showed more consistent dose-response relationship.
