ABSTRACT

Parkinson’s disease is seen in adults in their late middle or old age. It has four cardinal signs - resting tremor, bradykinesia, akinesia, and postural instability. Patient’s gait is often slow, shuffling with a stooped posture and they tend to walk faster with shorter steps. The affected patients have uncontrolled movements of the body along with stiffness of muscles. Tremors in orofacial musculature caused by Parkinson’s disease can make dental treatments, a challenge. The psychological component like depression, cognitive problems, and apathy further jeopardise the successful fabrication and utilisation of complete denture. This case series presents completely edentulous patients with Parkinson’s disease successfully treated with complete dentures in a sympathetic and caring approach. Some modification of techniques and materials were adopted to suit the special situations.

ABSTRACT

Auricular defects may be congenital or acquired and are the second most common craniofacial malformation. There are two main treatments: surgical reconstruction or prosthetic rehabilitation. The former is as great a challenge to surgeons because of the complex shape and size of the human ear. On the other hand, rehabilitation with a prosthetic ear matched to the contra lateral ear provides a better morphologic result. Presented in this article is a case report of a patient with an acquired auricular defect managed with a prosthesis made of elastic silicone material.

ABSTRACT

Lasers were introduced into the field of clinical dentistry with the hope of overcoming some of the drawbacks posed by the conventional methods of dental procedures. Since its first experiment for dental application in the 1960s, the use of laser has increased rapidly in the last couple of decades. At present, wide varieties of procedures are carried out using lasers. The aim of this review is to describe the current and emerging applications for lasers in prosthetic dentistry. Used in conjunction with or as a replacement for traditional methods, it is observed that specific laser technologies are becoming an essential component of contemporary dental practice over a decade.

ABSTRACT

The knowledge of the internal anatomy of root canals is very important for the success of endodontic treatment. Variations in dental anatomy are found in all teeth. Lack of knowledge of anatomic variations and their characteristics in different teeth has been one of the main causes of endodontic therapy failure. This case report describes the endodontic treatment of a mandibular first molar with five root canals, its incidence of occurrence and discusses the importance of their identification and treatment.

ABSTRACT

The prime focus of present day Dentistry is on preservation of teeth, thereby preserving alveolar ridge integrity and proprioceptive ability of periodontium. It also has positive psychologic effect on patient. Transitional dentures serve as one of the treatment option for patients presenting with very few remaining teeth, in compromised condition. A relatively newer type of transitional dentures is Cu-Sil dentures. A Cu-Sil denture is essentially a complete denture with holes lined with a rubber gasket, allowing the remaining natural teeth to protrude through. Cu-Sil dentures require special armamentarium and material for their processing. This case report presents an alternative technique to fabricate Cu-Sil like dentures in normal dental set-up as a lab procedure or chairside procedure using commonly available long term soft liners.

ABSTRACT

The coincidence of dental midline between the maxillary and the mandibular teeth, and the coincidence of dental midline with the facial midline is an important factor governing esthetics. AIM -The present study was planned to evaluate the relation between facial midline and dental midline and the relation between maxillary and mandibular midline in Karnataka population. METHODOLOGY -The present study was conducted on 400 Indian male and female individuals of 18-40 years of age group. Trubyte indicator was used to co-relate the midlines. RESULTS- The maxillary midline was coinciding with facial midline in 290 subjects (72.5%). The mandibular midline was coinciding with the facial midline in 169 subjects (42.2%). The mandibular midline was coinciding with maxillary midline in 127 subjects (31.7%). CONCLUSION- From the present study and various literature available it is assumed that there is not much difference between Western, European or Asian population in relation to facial midline and dental midline coincidence and in relation to sex.

ABSTRACT

Age estimation using forensic methodologies cover both living and dead people. In this regard, teeth are far more beneficial for being among the most indestructible tissues of the body, both in life and after death. Considering that maturity is function of age the objective of our study was to explore the utility of stages of tooth development in estimating the chronological age, which may be considered as a tool in forensic investigations. The inference drawn from the observations of the study results support the fact that the developmental stages of mandibular third molar yields acceptable estimates of chronological age of a suitable individual.

ABSTRACT

Immediate loading of implant has become a hot topic in implant dentistry. It shortens the treatment time and makes it possible to provide the patient with an aesthetic reconstruction during the whole treatment period. The clinical role of Botulinum toxin as a therapeutic agent is expanding. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It is one of the most poisonous naturally occurring substances in the world. Though it is highly toxic, it is used in minute doses both to treat dental conditions and as a cosmetic treatment. This article reviews the prophylactic and therapeutic role of Botulinum toxin A in immediate loading of dental implant therapy.
