ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo systematically review the intervention effect of cognitively engaging physical activity (CEPA) on executive function of children and adolescents. MethodsLiteratures in Chinese and English were retrieved from databases of Web of Science, PubMed, Medline, EBSCO and CNKI, from the establishment to November 30th, 2023. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the literatures that met the requirements were screened, and their quality was evaluated and systematically reviewed. ResultsA total of 15 literatures were included, published between 2014 and 2023, from eight countries, involving 1 806 subjects aged four to 16 years. The average score of PEDro scale was 6.6. The intensity of the CEPA intervention ranged from 64% to 93% HRmax, the duration of a single session ranged from ten to 60 minutes, and the frequency of the intervention was two to five sessions a week, for four to 24 weeks. Specific forms of CEPA included football, basketball and floorball combined with cognitive tasks; running, jumping, squatting, sitting, spinning and balancing combined with cognitive tasks; and exergaming combined with cognitive tasks. Eleven researches showed positive effects of CEPA intervention on at least one component of executive function. However, six of the seven researches involving working memory failed to verify the positive effects. Twelve researches compared the intervention effects of CEPA and rutine exercise or regular physical education classes, and nine researches found that CEPA was more effective on executive function. ConclusionThe CEPA is effective on the executive function of children and adolescents, specifically on cognitive flexibility; it shows inconsistent effects on inhibitory control, and its effect on working memory has not been verified. The intervention types of CEPA are divided into ball games combined with cognitive tasks, basic motor skills training combined with cognitive tasks, and exergaming combined with cognitive tasks.

ABSTRACT

Despite declines in morbidity and mortality in recent years, ischemic stroke (IS) remains one of the leading causes of death and disability from cerebrovascular diseases. Addressing the controllable risk factors underpins the successful clinical management of IS. Hypertension is one of the most common treatable risk factors for IS and is associated with poor outcomes. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has revealed that patients with hypertension have a higher incidence of blood pressure variability (BPV) than those without hypertension. Meanwhile, increased BPV has been identified as a risk factor for IS. The risk of IS is higher and the prognosis after infarction is worse with higher BPV, no matter in the acute or subacute phase. BPV is multifactorial, with alterations reflecting individual physiological and pathological changes. This article reviews the current research advances in the relationship between BPV and IS, with an attempt to raise awareness of BPV among clinicians and IS patients, explore the increased BPV as a controllable risk factor for IS, and encourage hypertensive patients to control not only average blood pressure but also BPV and implement personalized blood pressure management.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the effect of acute myeloid leukemia cells in leukemia-microenvironment on proliferation and apoptosis of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSC).@*METHODS@#Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) murine models overexpressing MLL-AF9 were established. The number of BM-MSC of wild type (WT) and AML-derived mice were analyzed by flow cytometry. Morphology and growth differences between WT and AML-derived BM-MSC were analyzed by inverted fluorescence microscope. Proliferation and apoptosis of BM-MSC between these two groups were detected by Brdu and Annexin V/PI.@*RESULTS@#Compared with WT-derived BM-MSC, the number and proliferation rate of AML-derived BM-MSC significantly increased (P<0.01, P<0.001), while apoptosis rate decreased (P<0.05). When cultured in vitro, BM-MSC grew faster under conditional medium.@*CONCLUSION@#AML cells can promote proliferation and inhibit apoptosis of BM-MSC.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the clinical significance of bone metabolism indexes and human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27)in ankylosing spondylitis(AS)and analyze their diagnostic value. Methods:The subjects were 94 cases of AS patients,239 cases with other diseases and 80 healthy controls, and the results were retrospectively surveyed. Results:In the AS group, the concentration of the β-collagen specific sequence (β-CTX ) was higher ( P<0. 05 ) while the concentrations of osteocalcin ( OC ) , 25-hydroxyvitamin D[25-(OH)D] and parathyroid hormone(PTH)were lower than those in the control group. In the AS group, there was a positive correlation between the concentration of C-reactive protein(CRP)and β-CTX(P<0. 01),and the concentration of CRP was negatively correlated with the concentration of 25-(OH)D(P<0. 05). However, the concentrations of other bone metabolic indexes had no correlation with the concentration of CRP(P<0. 05). The positive rate of HLA-B27 in the AS group was significantly higher than that in other groups(P<0. 05),and HLA-B27 had highly sensitive and specific in the diagnosis of AS. In the AS group, the sensitivity of the concentration of 25-( OH) D was higher than β-CTX,while its specificity was lower than β-CTX. Conclusion:Bone metabolic indexes have great value in early screening and clinical diagnosis of AS,especially β-CTX and 25-( OH) D were more obvious.

ABSTRACT

Three-parent test tube baby technology is important to solve the mitochondrial genetic disease.Once available,it raises greatly ethical controversy such as breaking traditional family values, hitting the religious belief, existing unknown risks, correctly handling the failed embryo,as well as the influence on the social status of the babies.Regarding these controversy,we can discuss it from several aspects.Because the development of ethics is behind the progress of science and technology,we should affirm the value of three-parent test tube baby technology and balance the development of science and technology with respecting the religious beliefs.Strict supervision system and standard application system reflect our respect for life.Incomprehension to the unknown things should become the motivation of our inquiry. We should face up to our fear of three-parent test tube baby technology, and thus to strengthen research and deepen understanding.Based on the above argument, this paper puts forward the ethical principles that should be followed in the development of three-parent test tube baby technology, namely respect, benefit,no harm and justice.

ABSTRACT

The results of lysine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, and valine on kinetics of zinc absorption in rat ileurn using a two-compartment in situ perfusion model showed; 1. Phenylalanine can increase the zinc absorption micro-constants K21, K12, and K02, That is to say phenylalanine increases the a-mount of zinc from lumen to mucosa, from mucosa to lumen, and from mu-cosa to blood. Tyrosine and valine can increase the values of K21, so more zinc flows from lumen to mucosa; 2. The results of amino acids on the half times of zinc absorption showed that phenylalanine decreases both the half times of the fast phase and the slow phase, while valine decreases only the half time of the fast phase. Lysine and tyrosine have no effects on the half times of zinc absorption. The results of this study indicate that phenylalanine, tyrosine, and valine increase zinc absorption in the ileum of rat. The enhancing effects of amino acids on zinc absorption are related to the stability constants of zinc-amino acid chelators.
