ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemic intensity and characteristics of influenza in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province from 2019 to 2023, and to provide scientific evidence for the formulation of influenza prevention and control strategies. MethodsThe surveillance data of influenza surveillance sentinel hospitals in Changzhou City from April 2019 to March 2023 were collected through the China influenza surveillance information system. Influenza-like illness (ILI) cases before and after the pandemic of COVID-19 in Changzhou City were analyzed, and the differences among qualitative data were compared by using χ² test. ResultsFrom April 2019 to March 2023 the percentages of ILI cases’ medical visits in the four-influenza surveillance year were 2.57%, 1.84%, 5.38%, and 3.66%, respectively, and the positive detection rates of influenza virus were 25.71%, 0.44%, 22.78%, and 24.32%, respectively. The number of influenza outbreaks was 61, 1, 23, and 128, respectively. ILI cases were mainly among adolescent children aged 5‒14 years. The percentage of ILI cases in 2020‒2021 after the pandemic of COVID-19 was significantly lower than that in 2019‒2020 (χ2=737.342, P<0.001), and the percentage of ILI cases in 2021‒2023 was higher than that in 2019‒2020. Influenza viruses in 2019‒2021 were dominated by type B Victoria, and influenza A virus was the dominant strain in positive influenza virus detections in 2022‒2023. The number of influenza outbreaks in 2021‒2023 was significantly lower than that in 2019‒2020 (χ2=185.662, P<0.001). ConclusionThe epidemiological characteristics of influenza are different in different stages of COVID-19 prevention and control during 2019‒2023. In the dynamic clearance phase of COVID-19, ILI case’s medical visits showed low-level fluctuations without obvious seasonal fluctuations, and influenza virus was dominated by type B. In the high-intensity phase of the pandemic, the level of ILI case’s medical visits has reached the peak of the calendar year, and the positive detection of influenza virus was dominated by type A H3N2. In the "Category B B control" phase, the level of ILI case’s medical visits increased after a rapid decline, and the positive detection of influenza virus was dominated by type A H1N1. It is necessary to further strengthen the monitoring of influenza cases, pay close attention to the changes in influenza strains, actively promote influenza vaccination for key population group, and promote health behavior changes for the whole population.

ABSTRACT

Gut microbiota is a bridge between the metabolism and health state of the host, which plays a very important role in maintaining homeostasis. Natural polysaccharides, widely existed in nature, are a kind of biological macromolecules with prebiotics effects, which can improve a degree of physiological status by selectively changing the gut microbiota structure and function, enhancing the content of short chain fatty acids(SCFAs)and decreasing the level of inflammatory cytokines. In addition, the majority of polysaccharides can be degraded by gut microbiota to enhance their bioavailability and to promote the health state of the host. In this paper we discuss the interaction among polysaccharides and gut microbiotanatural, degradation mechanism and review gut microbiota as a target in the treatment of metabolic diseases,so as to provide future prospects of natural polysaccharides as " prebiotics " functional factors in the field of biological medicine and health products.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the risk factors for cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) among infants through a multicenter clinical study.@*METHODS@#A total of 1 829 infants, aged 1-12 months, who attended the outpatient service of the pediatric department in six hospitals in Shenzhen, China from June 2016 to May 2017 were enrolled as subjects. A questionnaire survey was performed to screen out suspected cases of CMPA. Food avoidance and oral food challenge tests were used to make a confirmed diagnosis of CMPA CMPA. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the risk factors for CMPA.@*RESULTS@#Among the 1 829 infants, 82 (4.48%) were diagnosed with CMPA. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that maternal food allergy (OR=4.91, 95%CI: 2.24-10.76, P6 months (OR=0.38, 95%CI: 0.17-0.86, P<0.05) were protective factors.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The introduction of complementary food at an age of <4 months, maternal food allergy, and antibiotic exposure during pregnancy are risk factors for CMPA in infants.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effects of non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of infants with respiratory failure after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and extubation.

METHODSixty-three infants who had undergone successful surgery with CPB, got respiratory failure after extubation. These infants were randomly divided into two groups: non-invasive (NV) group, treated with non-invasive ventilation and invasive (IV) group, treated with tracheal intubation. The alteration of clinical symptoms, heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), pulse oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and blood gas were measured. A comparison was conducted in the incidence of complication and hospital infection, mechanical ventilation time, length of stay in ICU and hospital stay.

RESULTAmong the 32 patients in NV group, 1 patient died of heart failure, the remaining 31 patients recovered. Of these 32, 26 patients had relief of respiratory failure, the HR 181 (19.7) bpm, RR 54 (16.7) bpm and PaCO₂ 55.5(6) mm Hg decreased to 157 (12) bpm, 35 (3.25) bpm, and 42 (10.5) mm Hg, meanwhile SpO₂ 87% (10.5%), pH 7.29 (0.24), PaO₂ 55.5(6) mm Hg increased to 96% (3%), 7.37(0.15), 82.5 (11) mm Hg after treatment with non-invasive ventilation (P < 0.01). Six patients underwent tracheal intubation because their condition was not improved. Tracheal hemorrhage or laryngeal edema did not occur in these patients. Among the 31 patients in IV group, 1 patient died of heart failure, the other patients were cured. Of these 30, one patient had tracheal hemorrhage and four patients had laryngeal edema. The incidence of hospital infection in NV group was lower compared with that in IV group. The mechanical ventilation time in NV group 42 (17.2) h was shorter compared with that in IV group 50 (20) h (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in the length of ICU and hospital stay between the two groups.

CONCLUSIONNon-invasive ventilation is a safe and effective method to treat infants with respiratory failure after CPB and extubation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo construct the plasmid reference molecules for detection of transgenic tomato line Zeneca B,Da,F using quantitative real-time PCR(qPCR).

METHODSThree plasmid reference molecules pEasy-T3-APX, pEasy-T3-16A and pEasy-T3-16S were cloned based on reverse genetics, which contain the target fragments of tomato endogenous reference gene apx (ERG-apx), gene-specific sequence of pg(GS-pg) and construct-specific sequence of vectors pJR16S/pJR16A (CS-16S/CS-16A) of Zeneca B,Da,F, respectively. Primers and Taqman probes were designed by Beacon Designer 7.5.The specificity, sensitivity, reproducibility and the limit of detection(LOD) of the qualitative and quantitative PCR system based on the plasmid reference molecules were evaluated. PicoGreen was used to measure the DNA concentration of the plasmid reference molecules. Two sets of samples containing 1% or 0.1% (w/w) pEasy-T3-16A or pEasy-T3-16S mixed with pEasy-T3- APX as background DNA were prepared for evaluating the efficacy of the qPCR system.

RESULTSThe target fragments for qPCR detection were anchored, ERG-apx 108 bp, GS-pg 108 bp , CS-16S 109 bp and CS-16A 102 bp. The three plasmid reference molecules were confirmed at the expected sizes by restriction enzyme digestion. The qPCR results showed that the RSD of reproducibility were 0.2% to1.5%, LOD was 25 copies, R2 values for these standard curves were 0.994 ~0.998 and amplification efficiencies were 93.3%~102.4%.The bias between the test and true values of two sets of mixed samples ranged from -9.3% to 14.7% after adjusting by conversion factors(Cf).

CONCLUSIONThe plasmid reference molecules and qPCR system for qualitative and quantitative detection of transgenic tomato line Zeneca B,Da,F have been established successfully.
