ABSTRACT

Objective To study the prevalence of hyperuricemia and its risk factors in elderly people of Yiyang District,Hunan Province,China. Methods A total of 1363 elderly people undergoing physical examination in our hospital were divided into hyperuricemia group (n=245) and control group (n=1118).Their general clinical data were recorded and compared. The risk factors for hyperuricemia were analyzed. Results The age was significantly older, number of males was significantly larger, the serum TG,LDL-C,urea,UA levels and body height,BMI,SBP were significantly higher while the serum TC and HDL-C levels and Cr clearance rate were significantly lower in hyperuricemia group than in control group (P<0.05,P<0.01).Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum UA level was positively related with age, serum TG and urea level,BMI,SBP and DBP,but negatively related with Cr clearance rate and serum TC,LDL-C,HDL-C levels (P< 0.01).Binary logistic regression analysis showed that age, male gender, hyperlipidemia, and obesity were the independent risk factors for hyperuricemia after adjustment of age (OR=1.857,95 % CI:1.302-2.649,P=0.001;OR=1.866,95%CI:1.363-2.555,P=0.000;OR=2.214,95% CI:1.716-2.856,P=0.000).However,serum HDL-C level and Cr clearance rate were the protective factors for hyperuricemia (OR =0.388,95 % CI:0.242-0.623,P =0.000;OR =0.948,95%CI:0.937-0.959,P=0.000).Conclusion The prevalence of hyperuricemia is rather high in elderly people of Yiyang Distric,Hunan Province,China, suggesting that the lifestyle of elderly people should be improved and hyperuricemia should be treated with appropriate drugs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare and explore the morphological characteristics of mast cells in different tissues of 6 types of common laboratory animals. Methods Ten healthy adult SPF Kunming mice, 10 SD rats, 10 Hartley guinea pigs, 10 New Zealand rabbits, 6 beagle dogs and 6 Macaca mulata ( male:female=1:1, for all) were used in this study. The animals were sacrificed by euthanasia, samples of the skin, lung, spleen and sigmoid colon were taken from mouse, rat, guinea pig, rabbit, dog and monkey, and fixed in formalin and Bouin’ s solution.Paraffin sections were stained with toluidine blue and Alcian blue-safranin O, respectively. The mouse skin and dog spleen were immunohistochemically stained for substance P.A color pathological image analysis system was used to conduct the analysis of morphometric pa-rameters of mast cells.Samples of the skin of these animals were also fixed in glutaraldehyde for the electron microscopic observation and comparison of the mast cells. Results Mast cells in different types of animals were distinctive in distribu-tion, morphology, size, metachromasia and staining properties.Density and morphometric parameters of the mast cells had significant differences among the 6 types of animals ( P<0.05 ) .Characteristic granules were contained in the skin mast cells of guinea pig, dog and monkey.Mast cells in the mouse skin, dog spleen and nerves in the mouse skin showed immu-noreactive substance P.Conclusions Mast cells in the 6 types of laboratory animals showed histochemical and morphologi-cal heterogeneity, which have important reference values in animal experimental research on mast cell function.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of fire needling in treating endometriosis.Method Fifty-eight endometriosis patients were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups. The treatment group received fire needling at specific points. The treatment was given at one week before menstruation until the end of it, twice a week, three months as a course. The control group took gestrinone 2.5 mg from the first day of menstruation, twice a week, for three consecutive months. The therapeutic effects were evaluated in both groups at three months after the end of treatment.Result The cure rate and the efficacy rate were significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). The pregnancy rate was also higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Fire needling treatment for endometriosis has the advantages of good therapeutic effect, high cure rate and no influence on pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the differential expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) in serum and decidua tissue from missed abortion and normal first trimester pregnancy, and to explore their function in early pregnancy .Methods The expression of MMP-9,TIMP-1 in serum was determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA) ,and in decidua by immunohistochemical method . Results The MMP-9 serum level from missed abortion women was higher than that from normal first trimester preg -nancy women [(154.60 ±28.69)ng/mL vs.(135.75 ±18.35)ng/mL,t=3.50,P=0.001].The TIMP-1 serum level from missed abortion women was lower than that from normal first trimester pregnancy women [(253.03 ± 29.90)ng/mL vs.(323.15 ±33.62) ng/mL,t=9.86,P=0.000].The MMP-9 positive expression rate in decidua tissue was higher in missed abortion women than that in normal first trimester pregnancy women (82.5%vs.42.5%,χ2 =13.65,P=0.000).The TIMP-1 positive expression rate in decidua tissue was lower in missed abortion women than that in normal first trimester pregnancy women (87.5%vs.62.5%,χ2 =6.67,P=0.010).Conclusion The expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in serum and decidua may be assosiated with missed abortion .
