ABSTRACT
Objetivo: O objetivo desse estudo foi investigar a literatura para identificar os efeitos benéficos do tratamento periodontal não cirúrgico para os pacientes diabéticos tipo 2. Material e Métodos: Foram selecionados artigos científicos publicados entre os anos de 2008 e 2014, através dos bancos de dados MEDLINE, PUBMED e LILACS. Resultados e Conclusão: Conclui-se que pacientes diabéticos e não diabéticos submetidos ao tratamento periodontal não cirúrgico obtiveram melhora em todos os parâmentos clínicos periodontais. Entretanto, o efeito da terapia periodontal sobre os parâmetros sistêmicos permanece controverso.
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate through literature review if non-surgical periodontal therapy has benefits for type 2 diabetic patients. Material and Methods: It was selected scientific articles published between the years 2008 and 2014 were selected from MEDLINE, PUBMED and LILACS databases using as key words: type 2 diabetes, periodontal disease, glycemic control and periodontal treatment. Results and Conclusion: From the studies reported in this review it can be concluded that diabetic and non-diabetic patients undergoing non-surgical periodontal treatment showed improvement in all clinical periodontal vestments. However, the effect of periodontal therapy on systemic parameters remains controversial.
