ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the mushroom extract of Coriolus versicolor on drug resistant strain of S. typhimurium experimental results revealed that hot water ethanol extract and Tris- HCl ethanol extract of C. versicolor were not only effective against drug resistant strain of S.typhimurium (MTCC 3214) but also against other pathogenic microorganisms such as K. pneumoniae, S. typhi, E. coli, S. pyogenes and Aspergillus niger. The extracts exerted their effects on the microorganisms by inhibiting their growth. The optimum temperature and pH conditions for mycelial growth of C. versicolor were found to be 28±1ºC and 5.98 pH respectively. Maximum mycelial growth was observed by employing starch and ammonium sulphate as carbon and nitrogen source and on supplementing the cultivation medium with 20% (v/v) culture filtrate of C. versicolor. The present investigation highlights optimization of culture conditions and determination of antimicrobial spectrum C. versicolor .This indicate that the extracts of C. versicolor is a novel inhibitory source against drug resistant bacteria salmonella typhimurium.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this work was to study the herbicidal potential of Cell free culture filtrate of Colletotrichum dematium FGCC#20 against Parthenium by employing different bioassays i.e. shoot-cut, seedling, detached leaf and seed germination. On solvent extraction of the Cell free culture filtrate, Ethyl acetate extracted fraction showed the presence of phytotoxic moiety.

ABSTRACT

Bioproducts of Mushroom have multi beneficial effects for human welfare. Medicinal mushrooms are widely used as traditional medicinal ingredients for the treatment of various diseases and related health problems. Most of the medicinal extracts from mushroom are different forms of polysaccharides which strengthens the immune system with little or no side effect. Medicinal mushroom research has focused on discovery of compounds that can modulate positively or negatively the biological response of immune cells. The antimicrobial activity of various solvent extracts (40μg/ml) of Ganoderma lucidum was tested against six species of bacteria: Escherichia coli (MTCC-443), Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC-737), Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC-2405), Bacillus subtilis (MTCC-1789) Salmonella typhi (MTCC-531) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC-779). Acetone extract exhibited maximum antibacterial activity (31.60±0.10), while the most susceptible bacterium observed was Klebsiella pneumoniae.
