ABSTRACT

Thirty five lids of twenty seven patients with severe congenital ptosis were treated by levator resection [transcutaneous approach].Twenty to twenty five mm of the muscle were excised with full correction in 32 cases, overcorrection in 2 cases and undercorrection in one case. Patients were followed up for 12 months levator resection in severe congenital ptosis is recommended before thinking of frontalis sling operations

ABSTRACT

Twelve patients presented with endophthalmitis were treated with pars plana vitrectomy and intravitreal injection of gentamycin [200m]. Patients were followed up for 4 months. Useful vision were preserved in some cases and controlling the infection was achieved in most cases. Vitrectomy is recommended early in cases presented with endophthalmitis

ABSTRACT

Total IgE levels in the lacrimal fluid and serum were estimated in 28 soft contact lens wearers having giant papillary conjunctivitis [GPC] and in 22 normal soft contact lens wearers using the paper radioimmunosorbent test [PRIST]. A considerable elevaltion of lacrimal and serum IgE was detected in 24 [85.71%] out of 28 GPC patients The elevation was more pronounced in lacrimal than in serum IgE A slight elevation was detected in only 3 [13.63%] out of the 22 normal contact lens wearers

ABSTRACT

Several techniques were used to overcome the problems of the Grice technique in treating valgus foot. We used a combined Batchelor-Grice pocedures to arthrodese 36 valgus foot after poliomyelitis in children. The results were satisfactory in 31 of the 36 feets. The satisfactory results necessitate: good fibular graft, with preservation of the periosteal tube and prolonged immobilization in above knee plaster for 12 weeks

ABSTRACT

In this paper we report a series of 38 femoral neck fractures that were treated by closed reduction and internal fixation with multiple AO cancellous screws. At a mean follow up of 29.8 months, the results were satisfactory in 28 patients [73.7%] and unsatisfactory in 10 patients [26.3%]. Complications included non-union in 4 cases [10.5%], avascular necrosis in 5 cases [13.2%] and segmental collapse in one case [2.6%]. We concluded that osteosynthesis of femoral neck fractures with AO cancellous screws is an easy procedure that affords rigid fixation and relatively low incidence of complications and at the same time utilizes cheap implants and demands an average level of training. While better results were obtained in undisplaced fractures [Garden Stage I and II], and in fractures with good quality of postoperative reduction, age did not appear to be an important factor in outcome
