ABSTRACT

Introduction: The most essential part of any training program is evaluation, because by doing so, the shortcomings of the program can be realized and dealt with. Clinical evaluation of students is one of the fundamental challenges in clinical nursing education. Nowadays, self-evaluation is proposed as a useful method along with student evaluation by teacher

Objective: This study was performed to determine the agreement between self and clinical teacher evaluation of nursing students' clinical skills

Methods: In this descriptive cross -sectional study, 79 nursing students from of two to eight semester were chosen by stratified systematic random sampling method. At the end of the training, students' clinical skills were evaluated by themselves and clinical teachers. The data gathering instruments were evaluation forms used in college of nursing. Descriptive and inferential statistics [Variance analysis, Spearman correlation and inner group correlation square] were used for data analysis

Results: Based on study results, there was no significant difference between self and clinical teachers' evaluation in general and specific-general items. Also a high agreement and correlation were found between two assessment methods [P=0.0001, ICC= 0.916]

Conclusion: According to significant correlation between two different methods of assessment, it is suggested to increase the accuracy of clinical assessment scores and student satisfaction, self-assessment be used in addition to clinical teacher assessment. Perhaps this method may promote clinical evaluation methods

It is characterized by feeling of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment. Occupational support is a factor reducing stress in workplace. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of burnout and relationship between it and occupational support in nurses. In a descriptive study, 257 nurses were randomly selected through stratified sampling, and were classificated into eight medical educational hospitals in Rasht. Participants completed MBI [Maslach burnout inventory] and Spooner occupational support questionnaires. T test, chi square test, Fisher's exact test and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Emotional exhaustion was low in%51.4 and it was moderate to high in%48.6, depersonalization was low in%94.2 and moderate to high in%5.8, reduced accomplishment was low in%33.9 and it was moderate to high in%66.1. Coworker support in most nurses [%82.9] was moderate to high and manager support in%73.6 of the nurses was moderate to high. There was a negative correlation between manager support and emotional exhaustion and a positive correlation between dialysis unit and depersonalization and a negative correlation between age and depersonalization. ABSTRACT

Bibliometrics as a method of annual evaluation of research performance in Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences involves determination of scientific activities of faculty members. A wide range of scientific performances are evaluated in this way and determination of number of publications is an important indicator of this evaluation. Determination of number of article published by Guilan University of Medical Sciences [GUMS] faculty members. Using a descriptive design based on biblometrics methods, four eminent scientific databases including Scientific Information Database [SID], Iranmedex, Web of Knowledge [WOK]; and Scopus has been searched and the number of articles published by GUMS faculty members has been determined. Data obtained in this research indicates the number of Persian and Latin articles published by GUMS faculty members shows a rapid increase in recent five years as the number of Latin articles increased from 9 in 2003 to 41 in 2008. Of 879 articles published by GUMS members in this period, the medical faculty members contributed the highest percentage [77.47%], with Internal group as rank one with 69 articles. The current trend of article publication by GUMS members is favorably increasing, although this tendency has no equality in all faculties. Conducting more researches to discover the potential causes of this situation and providing sophisticated resolutions seems be necessary

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Competence is acknowledged as a controversial issue in health care settings, which affects many different aspects of the nursing profession such as education, practice and management. Although a number of research and discussion papers have explored the issue of competence in nursing and in particular the meaning and assessment of nursing competence, to date little research has been carried out to survey the factors identified by nurses themselves as being influential upon the development of professional competence in nursing. In this regard, this study attempted to reveal factors that contribute to the formation of competence based on nurses' experience. Once these factors understood, managers and educators might be able to implement appropriated strategies to boost nursing competence development

Objective: This study was conducted to explore and identify factors described by nurses as influential on the development of professional competence in nursing

Materials and Methods: This study is a qualitative study, which was done through content analysis. The sample consisted of fifteen registered nurses who were recruited from two Tabriz university-affiliated hospitals, which were chosen by non-probable sampling and by “sampling based on objective”. Tape-recorded semi-structured interviews were used as the data collection method. ?The contents of the interviews were transcribed into statements based on chosen methodology and then analysed

Results: Six interrelated categories were identified from the collected data. These categories, which have some degrees of overlap, include: [I] experience [II] opportunities [III] environment [IV] personal characteristics [V] motivation [VI] theoretical knowledge

Conclusions: Based on the findings obtained, a wide domain of internal and external personal conditions and factors influence achieving clinical competence. An understanding of these factors gives nursing managers and educators a scientific basis for closer dealing with this debatable issue. Nurses need this knowledge to be better able to pursue effective competency development pathways and ultimately to be prepared for providing a high standard of care. Thus the findings of this study could have important implications for nursing practice, management and education
