ABSTRACT
Three triterpenoidal saponin glycosides were isolated for the first time from A. setifera Moq. using VLC. Hydrolysis of saponin glycoside [I] afforded oleanolic acid and rhamnose. Saponin [II] gave 2-alpha-OH ursolic acid and rhamnose, while saponin [III] gave 2-alpha-OH ursolic acid and galactose. The sapogenins were identified on the basis of m.p. determination, chromatographic behavior and IR spectra in comparison with reference sapogenins and published data. Quantitation of saponin in the plant was carried out using hemolytic index method and was found to be 0.037%

Dihydroimperatorin, marmesin and xanthoranol were isolated for the first time from Malabaila secacule L. [Umbelliferae]. The structure of these compounds were confirmed by using spectroscopic methods including UV, IR, PMR and mass spectra
