ABSTRACT

Two groups of mature rats [30 rats each] were daily dosed orally with 5 or 10 mg/kg b. wt. endosulfan pesticide for 15 successive days. Serum samples were collected after the 5th, 10th and 15th doses. Kidney function tests were adopted on the collected samples. The results were compared with control group [15 rats]. The electrolytes [sodium, potassium and calcium] and total protein in the serum of treated rats showed marked decrease specially in that group dosed with 10 mg/kg b. wt. Serum urea, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine and serum alkaline phosphatase measured showed marked increase in the both treated groups. The illustrated results indicated that endosulfan pesticide has nephrotoxic effect on experimentally intoxicated rats
