ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Telerehabilitation advanced significantly with the emergence of COVID-19 and the recommendation of limiting physiotherapist-patient contact time whenever practicable. The effectiveness of telerehabilitation on those who had a longer stay in hospital and on oxygen support following discharge is still under question. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effects after six weeks of pulmonary telerehabilitation on exercise tolerance, fatigue level, perceived exertion, symptoms of depression and quality of life in patients surviving COVID-19. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quasi-experimental study was conducted on 25 post-COVID-19 patients following discharge in a home environment setting. The participants were advised to prepare equipment such as oxygen concentrator, B-type oxygen cylinder (backup), lengthy oxygen tubes, finger pulse oximeter, mini static pedal exerciser, incentive spirometry, weight cuffs or water bottles and sandbags. After six weeks of telerehabilitation, the patients underwent assessments including initial oxygen saturation (SPO2), heart rate, peak oxygen demand during exercise to maintain baseline SPO2, peak heart rate, maximum drop in SPO2, recovery time to baseline SPO2 measured with a pulse oximeter and stopwatch, peak perceived exertion using the Borg Dyspnea Scale, peak fatigue score using the visual analog scale (VASF), quality of life assessed with the SF-36 questionnaire, and mental health status evaluated with the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD). One-way repeated measure ANOVA and paired t-test were used. RESULTS: Significant improvements following the intervention on the initial SPO2 (F (2.12, 23.13) = 21.0, p< 0.05) and quality of life also showed significant improvement (mean difference =29.92, p< 0.05). CONCLUSION: Six weeks of comprehensive pulmonary telerehabilitation with simple equipment improved tolerance to exercise, fatigue, perceived exertion, symptoms of depression and quality of life for post-COVID-19 patients.


INTRODUÇÃO: A telereabilitação avançou significativamente com o surgimento da COVID-19 e a recomendação de limitar o tempo de contato entre fisioterapeutas e pacientes sempre que possível. A eficácia da telereabilitação em pacientes que permaneceram mais tempo no hospital e necessitaram de suporte de oxigênio após a alta ainda está em questão. OBJETIVO: Para avaliar os efeitos após seis semanas de telereabilitação pulmonar na tolerância ao exercício, nível de fadiga, percepção de esforço, sintomas de depressão e qualidade de vida em pacientes sobreviventes de COVID-19. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Foi realizado um estudo quase-experimental com dezesseis pacientes pós-COVID-19 selecionados de um hospital multispecializado. Os participantes foram orientados a preparar equipamentos como concentrador de oxigênio, cilindro de oxigênio tipo B (reserva), tubos de oxigênio longos, oxímetro de pulso, exercitador de pedal estático, espirômetro incentivador, pesos de tornozelo ou garrafas d'água e sacos de areia. Após seis semanas de telereabilitação, os pacientes foram submetidos a avaliações, incluindo saturação inicial de oxigênio (SPO2), frequência cardíaca, demanda máxima de oxigênio durante o exercício para manter a SPO2 basal, frequência cardíaca máxima, queda máxima na SPO2, tempo de recuperação para SPO2 basal medido com um oxímetro de pulso e cronômetro, esforço percebido máximo usando a Escala de Dispneia de Borg, pontuação máxima de fadiga usando a escala analógica visual (VASF), qualidade de vida avaliada com o questionário SF-36 e estado de saúde mental avaliado com a Escala de Depressão de Hamilton (HAMD). RESULTADOS: Melhorias significativas após a intervenção foram observadas na SPO2 inicial (F (2,12, 23,13) = 21,0, p <0,05) e na frequência cardíaca (F (1,839, 20,23) = 43,73, p <0,05), demanda máxima de oxigênio durante o exercício para manter a SPO2 basal (F (1,487, 16,36) = 8,96, p <0,05), esforço percebido máximo (F (5, 55) = 112,51, p <0,05), pontuação máxima de fadiga (F (1,755, 19,30) = 67,44, p <0,05), frequência cardíaca máxima (F (1,798, 19,78) = 50,99, p <0,05), queda máxima na SPO2 (F (2,467, 27,14) = 41,46, p <0,05) e tempo máximo de recuperação para alcançar a SPO2 basal (F (5, 55) = 78,89, p <0,05). A análise de seis semanas pós-intervenção nos sintomas depressivos (diferença média = 11,25, p <0,05) e na qualidade de vida também mostrou melhoria significativa (diferença média = 29,92, p <0,05). CONCLUSÃO: Seis semanas de telereabilitação pulmonar abrangente com equipamentos simples melhoraram a tolerância ao exercício, a fadiga, a percepção de esforço, os sintomas de depressão e a qualidade de vida em pacientes pós-COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Serious setbacks were witnessed in shrimp farming, the food industry, and the ship industry during the past three decades primarily due to bacterial pathogens that coordinate by quorum sensing (QS). The influence of bacterial pathogens utilizing QS. The impact of QS cell communication on public health is extremely disastrous in terms of spread, spectrum, apart from their economic impact. The overuse of antibiotics has increased drastically to battle bacterial infections, including tons of antibiotics are distributed in the biosphere. Due to the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, multiple antibiotic-resistant strains have emerged, as the antibiotic resistance genes are being transferred to bacteria of terrestrial animals, humans, and pathogens. The increased public awareness of the negative drawbacks caused by over-exposure to antibiotics, also the emergence of multiple antibiotic resistant pathogenic stains led to the search for alternatives and unique solutions. One such unconventional, promising method is the interruption of bacterial cell to cell communication, which is currently termed QS inhibition. Now-a-days, QS inhibition is the potential objective for antimicrobial chemotherapy. This review summarizes the regulatory factors that attenuate the QS activities of deadly pathogens and discusses their distinctive characteristics. Improving awareness of the natural roles of regulatory elements might be useful in unveiling inhibitor applications to understand how QS is inhibited in pathogenic bacteria by different QS inhibitors.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Pterygium is a fibrovascular disease that originates in the conjunctiva and commonly spreads to the corneal surface, thereby posing a threat to eyesight. Despite intensive research, the pathophysiology of this disease remains unclear. Recent research suggests that oncogenic viruses, such as human papillomavirus (HPV), cytomegalovirus, and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), may play a role in pterygia development. Although there are questions concerning the function of oncogenic viruses in pterygium pathogenesis, existing research shows a lack of consensus on the subject, demonstrating the heterogeneity of pterygium pathophysiology. Therefore, we aimed to simultaneously detect the three common viral pathogens that have been reported in pterygium tissue obtained after excision. Methods: Thirty?five tissue specimens of pterygium from patients undergoing pterygium surgery (as cases) were analyzed for evidence of viral infection with multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and virus?specific real?time quantitative PCR was used for the samples that were detected positive by multiplex PCR. Results: Of the 35 patients, one sample was positive for EBV and two samples were positive for HPV. Further PCR?based DNA sequencing of the HPV PCR?positive product showed identity with HPV?16. Real?time quantitative PCR on samples that showed EBV or HPV positivity did not yield any detectable copy number. Conclusion: Our study results confirmed that PCR positivity could be due to transient flora, but it was not quantitatively significant to conclude as the causative factor of pterygium pathogenesis. However, additional studies with larger sample populations are warranted to fully determine the role of the virus in pterygium.

Objective@#In previous research, we found that Sestrin2 has a strong association with plasma atherogenicity and combats the progression of atherogenesis by regulating the AMPK-mTOR pathway. Metformin, an activator of AMPK, is widely used as a first-line therapy for diabetes, but its role in preventing atherosclerosis and cardiac outcomes is unclear. Hence, we aimed to assess the effect of metformin on preventing atherosclerosis and its regulatory role in the Sestrin2-AMPK -mTOR pathway in obese/diabetic rats. @*Methods@#Animals were fed a high-fat diet to induce obesity, administered streptozotocin to induce diabetes, and then treated with metformin (150 mg/kg body weight) for 14 weeks. Aorta and heart tissues were analyzed for Sestrin2 status by western blotting and immunohistochemistry, AMPK and mTOR activities were investigated using western blotting, and atherogenicity-related events were evaluated using reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction and histology. @*Results@#Obese and diabetic rats showed significant decrease in Sestrin2 levels and AMPK activity, accompanied by increased mTOR activity in the heart and aorta tissues. Metformin treatment significantly restored Sestrin2 and AMPK levels, reduced mTOR activity, and restored the altered expression of inflammatory markers and adhesion molecules in obese and diabetic rats to normal levels. A histological analysis of samples from obese and diabetic rats showed atherosclerotic lesions both in aorta and heart tissues. The metformin-treated rats showed a decrease in atherosclerotic lesions, cardiac hypertrophy, and cardiomyocyte degeneration. @*Conclusion@#This study presents further insights into the beneficial effects of metformin and its protective role against atherosclerosis through regulation of the Sestrin2-AMPK-mTOR pathway.

Introduction: The significant risks posed to mothers and fetus by COVID-19 in pregnancy have sparked a worldwide debate surrounding the antenatal SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination. ACOG and CDC recognize pregnancy as a risk factor, Recent data demonstrated that pregnant women with COVID-19 infection are at increased risk for intensive care unit (ICU) admission, mechanical ventilation, and death, compared with properly matched nonpregnant women. Moreover, COVID-19 illness increases the risk for pregnancy complications such as preterm birth, pregnancy-induced hypertensive diseases, and thromboembolic diseases. Maternal IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 where transferred across the placenta after asymptomatic as well as symptomatic infection during pregnancy. Proper transfer of neutralizing antibodies may be critical during pregnancy, as a greater proportion of neonates and infants have severe or critical illness upon COVID-19 infection than older pediatric counterparts. To detect cord bloodAims and Objectives: IgG antibodies against SARS CoV-2 in pregnant women. To assess the association between maternal and fetal SARS-CoV- 2 specific antibodies. A brief questionnaire was administered to 42 antenatal women attending for delivery atMethods: Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Telangana State. The questionnaire included information such as vaccination status, previous history of Covid infection, presence of any symptoms at the time of admission, comorbid conditions like DM, HTN, Thyroid disorders, etc. Following delivery, 2ml cord blood sample has been collected. Serum has been separated and used for detection of SARS CoV-2 IgG antibody titers by quantitative ELISA. Among 42Results: antenatal cases,4 were controls among them two were positive control and two were negative controls. Out of remaining 38, the SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies are detected in 14 cases. IgG was detected in the cord blood for 33.3% of the total cases. Among those detected positive for antibodies, 50% had preterm deliveries. IgG antibodies haveConclusion: been detected in the cord blood collected from the vaccinated women as well as the women affected with SARS-Co-2 and even increased the risk for pregnancy complications such as preterm birth, pregnancy-induced hypertensive diseases, Gestational Diabetes.

Background: Health-related comorbidities often increase due to cancer among the ageing population. However, the domains of psychological functioning of geriatric patients remain undetected especially in the Indian scenario. This study aimed to evaluate psychological problems, perceived social support, fatigue, and quality of life among geriatric patients with cancer. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in a tertiary cancer center. Geriatric patients with cancer (n = 130) having solid malignancies categorized as older patients (>65 years) and younger geriatric patients (60–65 years) were included in the study. Depression, anxiety, perceived social support, fatigue, and quality of life was assessed using the Geriatric Depression Screening Scale, Geriatric Anxiety Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Symbolic Assessment of Fatigue Extent, and the Old People Quality of life Scale, respectively. Descriptive and inferential statistics such as cross tab analysis, correlation and regression analysis. Results: A majority of patients 80 (61.5%) had low perceived social support, moderate-severe depression 61 (47.7%) and mild-moderate anxiety 55 (43.1%). Half of the patients were found to have poor quality of life. Further, psychological problems were higher among older geriatric patients (p = 0.000). Very few patients had a higher impact of fatigue on their daily functioning 17 (13.3%). There was a positive correlation between perceived social support, depression, anxiety, extent of fatigue, and quality of life (r = 0.256, P = 0.003). Conclusion: Psychological problems are higher among older geriatric patients with cancer undergoing treatment. Clinical implications could aim at regular screening to identify specific psychological issues and provide appropriate interventions. Future research warrants the efficacy of such therapeutic interventions for better quality of life outcomes

ABSTRACT

Purpose: To review surgical options, techniques, and outcomes of anterior staphyloma repair done following trauma and surgery. Methods: This was a retrospective case study of patients who underwent staphyloma repair with scleral or tibial periosteal patch grafts following trauma and surgery with a minimum follow-up of 3 months postoperatively. Preoperative risk factors, choice of graft materials, surgical details, and outcomes in terms of graft uptake and tectonic integrity were analyzed. Results: Seventeen eyes of 17 patients underwent successful staphyloma repair (scleral 15, tibial periosteal two). Mean follow-up was 47.1 months (3–159 months). Postoperative intraocular pressure rise noted in four eyes was controlled medically or surgically. Three patients underwent successful repeat patch grafting (graft melt one and recurrent ectasia two). Tectonic integrity of the eyeball was restored and maintained in all patients at the final follow-up. Conclusion: Comprehensive evaluation of the risk factors, control of ocular comorbid conditions, and early and meticulous surgery can optimize results.

Introduction: COVID‑19 is caused due to infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome‑coronavirus‑2. A change in the epidemiological pattern of neurovascular diseases has been observed among patients who have had COVID‑19 infection. There are not enough studies which have evaluated the neurovascular manifestations among patients of COVID‑19 infection. MaterialsandMethods: This single‑center observational study was intended to evaluate the correlation between various COVID‑19‑related parameters with the outcomes of vascular events among patients of COVID‑19 who developed neurovascular complications. The study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Pune, India, from February 01, 2021, to October 10, 2021. The study population involved patients with COVID‑19 of varying severity and associated neurovascular complications. The total number of patients was 22 in number. The deidentified data were analyzed using JMP version 10.040. Results: Among a total of 22 patients, 16 (73%) had arterial infarcts, 5 (23%) had venous infarcts, whereas 1 (4%) had intracerebral hemorrhage. Four (18%) patients had features of severe COVID‑19 and 2 (9%) of them had a modified Rankin Scale of six. There was a strong correlation between the severity of COVID infection and the severity of neurovascular complications. A positive correlation was observed between the time duration from Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT‑PCR) positivity to neurovascular complications with the duration of >45 days having a poorer outcome. Conclusion: COVID‑19 is more likely to cause thrombotic vascular events including stroke. The severity of COVID‑19 is directly correlated with poorer outcomes. The duration between RT‑PCR positivity and neurovascular symptoms if >45 days, has a poorer outcome

ABSTRACT

Background & objectives: Consumption of high glycaemic index (GI) food is associated with a high risk for diabetes. There is a felt need to understand the GI of common Indian traditional foods using standard GI protocols. The present study was aimed to analyse the carbohydrate profile of common traditional Indian food preparation and to determine their GI using standardized protocols. Methods: Twelve food preparations made of millets, wheat, maize and pulses were evaluated for nutrient composition including detailed carbohydrate profiling and tested for GI in healthy volunteers using standard methodology. Capillary blood glucose responses for the test foods containing 50 g available carbohydrates were recorded and compared to the reference food (50 g glucose). GI was calculated from the incremental area under the curve (IUAC) for the test and reference foods. Results: Available carbohydrate content of the food preparations ranged between 13.6 and 49.4 g per cent. Maize roti showed the highest total dietary fibre (7.5 g%). White chick pea ‘sundal’ showed highest resistant starch content (3.95 g%). Amongst the 12 test foods, five fell in the high GI category (finger millet balls, sorghum, pearl millet and maize roti), four in the medium GI category (sorghum idli, wheat dosa, methi roti and adai) and three in the low GI category (broken wheat upma, white peas sundal and white chick peas sundal). Interpretation & conclusions: Merely being a whole grain-based food does not qualify for a lower GI. The method of processing, food structural integrity and preparation could influence the GI. The type and quality of fibre are important than the quantity of fibre alone. Judicious planning of accompaniments using low GI legumes may favourably modify the glycaemic response to high GI foods in a meal.

Plants under stress need to favour certain pathways so as to survive the stress period. Protection of specific enzymes by proline and other osmolytes could be one such mechanism to favour some pathways/processes. Therefore, the influence of osmolyte proline on conformational changes of various proteins caused by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was studied by intrinsic and extrinsic fluorescence emissions. H2O2 caused conformational change in proteins. Results indicated that for Alcohol dehydrogenase (AD) and Glutamate dehydrogenase (GD) enzymes, H2O2 induced conformational change was high and that for Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) was low. Fluorescence and far-UV, CD measurements of catalase demonstrated that the H2O2 stabilized the protein secondary structure at low concentrations but destabilized it at higher concentrations. Intrinsic and ANS fluorescence results showed that proline at a concentration of 1.0 M prompted a reduction in the H2O2-induced exposed hydrophobic surfaces of studied enzymes, to different degrees which suggests its differential protective effect. Furthermore, SDS-PAGE studies revealed that proline was not able to reduce or inhibit the H2O2 mediated aggregation of GAPDH.

@#Introduction: Reducing radiation dose for CT examinations has been accompanied by an increase in image noise. Studies have highlighted the application of a higher matrix size for improving image quality when assessing the lungs. This study aims to evaluate the influence of a low kVp and higher matrix size on radiation dose and image quality for abdominopelvic CT. Methods: This experiment was done on a 32 cm body phantom and scanned using a 128 slice CT scanner. The study utilised various combinations of kVp settings (140, 120, 100, 80 & 70) and matrix sizes (1024, 768 & 512). The image obtained was analysed objectively and subjectively. For objective analysis, we calculated SNR, and CNR. For subjective analysis, two radiologists evaluated the image in a 3-point scoring scale. Results: The study reported an increase in SNR (0.8%) and CNR (46%) at 120 kVp when increasing the matrix size from 512 x 512 to 768 x 768. Similarly, there was an increase of 14.5 % and 56.4 % in CNR and SNR using 1024 matrix size. The DLP was reduced by 4.5%, 50% and 70.6 % using 100, 80 and 70 kVp respectively. However, there was no change in DLP with higher matrix sizes. Conclusion: The study reported a combination of 100 kVp and 768 matrix size resulted in an almost similar (↓0.9 %) SNR and improved CNR (↑46.4 %) compared to 120 kVp and 512 matrix size. Qualitative analysis also showed a similar image quality with decreased radiation dose for abdominopelvic CT.

@#Introduction: Radiation exposure during the CT examination has always been a concern due to its associated cancer risk. The guidelines suggest the optimization of radiation dose reduction. Therefore, this study aims to determine the feasibility of dose reduction strategies on radiation dose reduction using a phantom. Methods: Head and body phantoms of 16 cm and 32 cm, respectively, were used to calculate the radiation dose and measure the quantitative image quality. The phantoms were positioned and scanned with the standard protocol and low dose protocol. For dose reduction strategies, scan length was reduced in head phantom, and tube voltage and tube current were manipulated individually and by combining both and tested in both head and body phantoms. Also, the influence of rotation time was investigated in body phantom. Quantitative image quality was determined by drawing a region of interest on the obtained image. Results: Reducing scan length showed 41% reduction of radiation dose and reducing tube current, and tube voltage showed up to 75% reduction of radiation dose in head phantom and 70% reduction of radiation dose in body phantom compared to the standard protocol. The reduction of the rotation time, however, reduced the scan time and the radiation dose but the maximum mAs or tube current allowed was limited. Quantitative image quality was reduced when using a lower dose protocol. Conclusion: The dose reduction strategies showed a reduced dose, but the quantitative image quality score was reduced when scanned with low dose protocol. Further manipulation can be performed to maintain image quality.

Introduction: Acute organophosphorus (OP) pesticidepoisoning is widespread and is the most common poisoningin many developing countries and vary in differentgeographic regions. Organophosphorus compounds are antiacetylcholinesterase’s which exert their toxicity by interferingwith the normal function of acetylcholine. So the present studywas done to assess the serum cholinesterase levels correlationwith clinical severity to determine the treatment outcome(Need for mechanical ventilation and mortality).Material and methods: A cross-sectional study wasconducted among 100 patients admitted with OPC poisoningin the department of general medicine, Velammal MedicalCollege Hospital and Research Institute, Madurai fromJanuary 2016 to July 2019. The diagnosis was made basedon history or evidence of exposure to OP compound within24 hours; Clinical severity was assessed and categorizedaccording to POP scale. Serum Cholinesterase values weredefined as per Proudfoot classification. IBM SPSS version 22was used for statistical analysis.Results: OP poisoning predominantly affected males in theage group 21 to 40 years. The majority had a moderate gradeof poisoning with Serum cholinesterase levels between 2001to 5000 (IU/l). In this study, the mortality was 25%, and 40%of patients had to be ventilated. There was no statisticallysignificant relationship between age, gender, clinical severity,time-lapse, Serum cholinesterase levels, mortality withmechanical ventilation. Mortality rate showed a statisticallysignificant relation with clinical severity (p<0.001).Conclusion: Clinical severity was associated with treatmentoutcomes. No particular trend of the association was observedbetween clinical severity and serum cholinesterase levels.Serum cholinesterase levels had shown no association withoutcomes

Introduction: Acute organophosphorus (OP) pesticide poisoning is widespread in the developing world. Being predominantly an agricultural country, pesticides and insecticides are used abundantly for cultivation, and access to these poisonous chemical substances by the population is easy. The objectiveof the study was to identifythe nature of the demographic profile, type of compound, clinical manifestations, and outcome of organophosphate poisoning presenting to a tertiary care teaching hospital in India. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 100 patients admitted with OPC poisoning inthe department of general medicine,Velammal Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Madurai from January 2016 to July 2019. The diagnosis was made based on history or evidence of exposure to OP compound within 24 hours; characteristic manifestations of OP poisoning include, miosis, fasciculations, excessive salivation, improvement of signs and symptoms with administration of atropine were recorded. IBM SPSS version 22 was used for statistical analysis. Results:The majority of the subjects were males(80%). The majority (66%) were in the age group of 21-40 years. The most common OPC to be consumed was Methyl parathion (27%), followed by chlorpyrifos (22%). The major GIT complications were abdominal pain/cramps (100%), followed by nausea and vomiting (83%). Mechanical ventilation was needed in 40% and mortality was reported in 25% of the subjects. Conclusion:OP poisoning affects resonantly males in their economically productive phase of life. Considering the high mortality, adequate strengthening of health services, especially at the primary level is the need of the hour.

ABSTRACT

Dermatophytes are fungi that infects the skin, hair and nails. They are hyaline septate moulds with more than hundred species described. Of these, 42 species are considered as valid and less than half are associated with human diseases. Dermatophytoses are infections produced by these and are common in tropical and subtropical areas of the country with high humidity.1 We wanted to speciate dermatophytes using phenotypic methods, analyze the risk factors, and study their clinical correlation.METHODSThe study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital in South India over a period of one year. All newly suspected cases of dermatophytosis attending Dermatology Outpatient Department were selected for the study. Thus, a total of 113 patients were enrolled in the study. Samples from these patients were subjected to direct microscopy and culture was done on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar with antibiotics. Potato dextrose agar was used for enhancement of pigment production. Culture confirmation and speciation were done by tease mount, slide culture and supplemental tests like urease test and hair perforation test. RESULTSThe present study was carried out on 113 clinically diagnosed cases of dermatophytoses. Maximum number of cases occurred in the 11-20 years age group and slight female preponderance was noted. Tinea corporis was the most common type of dermatophytosis, 68 cases (60.2%) followed by mixed type (tinea corporis + tinea cruris) 14 cases (12.4%) and tinea cruris 13 cases (11.5%). Overall positivity by culture was 39% and by direct microscopy 96%. Trichophyton rubrum was the most predominant species - 18 isolates (38.3%) and most of them were isolated from tinea corporis. Trichophyton verrucosum (25.5%) and Trichophyton mentagrophyte (21.3%) were also obtained as major isolates.CONCLUSIONSThis study highlighted that tinea corporis is the commonest clinical type. Trichophyton rubrum is the most predominant species. But we got a fairly good number of Trichophyton verrucosum and Trichophyton mentagrophyte also. Exposure to predisposing factors were present in almost half of the cases. Dermatophytosis is a trivial disease and antifungal agents are the drugs of choice for treatment but identification of predisposing factors and avoidance of these can decrease the incidence of the disease to some extent
