ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: evaluate the frequency of efficacy of Levetiracetam in treating seizures in neonates METHODOLOGY: In this descriptive observational study, we enrolled 110 cases from DHQ Hospital Kasur. We included all neonates of either gender, term cases, with seizures, loading dose of 50 mg/kg of intravenous levetiracetam was given at admission and maintained on a dose of 25 mg/kg every 12 hours. Outcome was measured in-terms of loss of EEG event within 72 hours of treatment and cessation of tonic, clonic seizures in ? 12hours. RESULTS: Out of 110 cases, 42.73%(n=47) were between 1-15 days of life and 57.27%(n=63) were between 16-28 days, 48.18%(n=53) were male and 51.82%(n=57) were females. The efficacy of the Levetiracetam in neonatal seizures was recorded in 62.73%(n=69) neonates. Conclusion: LEV is an effective drug for resolving neonatal seizures in our population.

ABSTRACT

Background/objectives: The epidemiology of the stress is not well known. The reason behind this is, very few studies have been conducted about allied health sciences students. This study may act as pioneer studies that focus on all the sources and causes of stress among the students in Government College University Faisalabad. Materials and methods: This study was a type of observational study, cross-sectional survey. This type of study is quite brief and easy to understand so it was done. A questionnaire was made which comprised of all the necessary questions to be asked from the students. It included demographic information such as gender, degree, semester, and age of the students to get the idea from where the student belongs. It includes all the questions about sources of stress which they were facing while studying in the university. Results and Conclusion: It has been inferred that furnishing of labs, clinical rotation, dealing with criticism related to academics, major cause of stress that is any complex, financial responsibilities, job expectation and insecurity about future employment are the factors that increased or decreased the stress per day among the students.

ABSTRACT

To determine the functional outcome of one stage posteromedial release in congenital clubfoot in terms of functional and radiological assessment. Forty five patients having clubfoot deformity were included in the study. Fifteen patients had bilateral deformities. The outcome was evaluated by functionally assessing the foot in the last review visit [at the end of 14th week of surgery] using the rating system of McKay, which has ten categories and has a maximum score of 180 points. It rates the outcomes as excellent good, fair, poor and failure [Fig -1]. Radiological assessment is made by measuring various angles on anteroposterior and lateral radiograph of the foot with gonometer at 3, 6, 10 and 14 weeks after release [Table -II]. The values of talocalcaneal angle [measured during every visit] on AP and lateral views will be summated to yield talocalcaneal index, and an index of >40 degree was taken as normal. Forty five patients included in the study with clubfoot deformity. Out of these patients, 33 [73.33%] were males and 12 [26.66%] were females [table -I]. They were graded according to the McKay rating system. In this short term follow up of one year, the following results were observed. Thirty-nine [65%] patients had excellent results, 11 [18.33%] patients had good results, 3 [5%] patients had fair results and 7 [11.66%] patients had poor results [Fig-1]. No case can be labeled as failure. Mild to moderated clubfoot deformities can be successfully treated in children up to five years of age by one stage postero-medial release

ABSTRACT

Lumbar hernias are rare lesions that account for less than 1.5% of total hernia incidence. Only 250-300 cases have been reported in literature. Diagnosis may be difficult because they are either asymptomatic or may present with vague complaints. Differential diagnosis includes a lipoma, a fibroma, a retroperitoneal or intra-cavitary tumor, hematoma or a chronic abscess. They may occur in association with defects of the musculoskeletal system including some syndromes. Lumbar hernia in patients with neurofibromatosis has been reported in a very few number of cases. We report a case of 40 year old female with type 1 neurofibromatosis who presented with left lumbar hernia of Petit
