ABSTRACT

Aims: To determine the optimum irrigation schedule and nitrogen level for Bt cotton in alfisols in Southern Telangana.Study Design: Split plot design.Place and Duration of Study: ARI, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during kharif 2014.Methodology: The experiment was laid out with three irrigation schedules (I1- 0.8 IW/CPE, I2 - 0.4 IW/CPE and I3 - Rainfed) as main plots and four nitrogen levels (N1- 0 kg ha-1, N2 - 75 kg ha-1, N3 - 150 kg ha-1 and N4 - 225 kg ha-1) as sub plot treatments replicated thrice. Treatments imposed as per the schedule and data recorded on yield, yield attributes, nitrogen uptake by adopting standard proceduresResults: Irrigation at 0.8 IW/CPE recorded significantly higher plant height (79 cm), drymatter at first picking (195 g plant-1), bolls plant-1 (16), seed cotton yield (1435 kg ha-1), lint yield (541 kg ha-1), stalk yield (2057 kg ha-1) and nitrogen uptake (63 kg ha-1) and was not differed significantly with 0.4 IW/CPE and these were significantly superior to rainfed cotton. Among nitrogen levels, significantly higher plant height (90 cm), drymatter at first picking (214 g plant-1) stage, days to reach boll development (90) stage, bolls plant-1 (15), boll weight (5.3 g), seed index (9.9 g), seed cotton yield (1435 kg ha-1), lint yield (547 kg ha -1) and stalk yield (2214 kg ha -1) were found with application of nitrogen at 225 kg ha-1 was comparable with 150 kg N ha-1 and were significantly superior over lower levels of nitrogen application. The substantial increase in yield and yield attributes might be due to favorable effect on growth attributes like plant height, increased bolls plant-1, drymatter accumulation plant-1 and its subsequent translocation towards sink improved the seed cotton yield. Conclusion: It can be concluded that, higher seed cotton yield can be obtained with the irrigation scheduled at 0.4 IW/CPE and application of nitrogen at 150 kg ha-1 in Bt cotton grown in alfisols.

ABSTRACT

Necrotizing sialometaplasia (NS) is a rare benign reactive necrotizing in?ammatory process that affects the minor salivary gland and frequently mimics cancer on both a clinical and histopathological level. Case Study : We report the case of a 21-year-old healthy man who had throat pain and non-healing ulcer over soft palate for the past one month, with pain during swallowing.Histopathological analysis and an incisional biopsy were performed on the patient. Necrotizing sialometaplasia was the histologically determined diagnosis. Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a self-limiting disorder of salivary glands mostly affecting the hard palate. The duration of the healing process is usually related to the size of the lesion. The recurrence rate of Necrotizing Sialometaplasia is low.Even a full thickness palatal lesion heals completely within 6 months.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Glomus tumours are rare, benign tumours of vascular origin, arising from the glomus body. Glomus tumours are neoplasms of mesenchyme derived from glomus bodies. Glomus tumours present as a purple or pink vascular lesion that can be confused with a vascular neoplasm such as hemangioma. In this case we are reporting a rare presentation of glomus tumour over lower lid. A 10 year old female child presented with lesion over left lower Case Report: lid since 3 months which was painless and progressive. On examination a 0.3x0.3 cm subcutaneous pink non encapsulated mass is seen over medial canthus of left eye. Mass was excised and subjected to histopathological examination which confirmed the diagnosis of glomus cell tumour(glomangioma). Postoperative period was uneventful with no recurrence for last 6months. Conclusion: All excised eyelid lesions should undergo detailed Histopathological evaluation and glomus tumour should be considered as one of the differential diagnosis in patients presenting with eyelid mass

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Paediatric medico-legal cases are important public health problems in the paediatric casualty in India. These cases are among the leading causes of paediatric disabilities and deaths. We conducted a study to evaluate the demographic features of the medico-legal cases who presented to our paediatric casualty. Methodology: In a total of two-year study period, 120 patients were presented in casualty as medico-legal cases. Information about the patients was obtained from hospital records and analysed by us from casualty. Results: 70 male (58.3%) and 50 female (41.6%) patients were included in our study. The majority of the patients were between 10- 14 years of age (n=30; 25.0%). Fall from height was the major complaint (n= 60; 50%) of our patients. Winter was the most common season (n= 37; 30.6%) and January (n=13; 11%) was the most common month for medico-legal admissions. The majority of the patients (n=42; 35%) presented to our emergency room between 18-24 hours. 78 cases (65%) had health risks at the time of presentation. Conclusion: Developing effective & preventive strategies is essential to prevent child injuries. Majority of cases were males and adolescents. There is an urgent need to focus more on this vulnerable age group i.e., adolescent age group. There should be increased awareness among paediatricians about these medico legal cases and improving counselling skills to handle relatives of patients

ABSTRACT

Bio medical Waste (BMW) collection and disposal has become major concern for the medical and general Community. Improper waste management is hazardous to health care workers, patients, general Public and largely the environment. i) To evaluate the practices of BMW Management at source of generation and Aims & Objectives: transportation among different patient care areas at Vydehi Hospital ii) To analyze the quantity of waste generates iii)To assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Practices(KAP)among health care personnel regarding waste management. Methodology: It is a direct Observational and cross-sectional study which was conducted for a period of 12 months at VIMS & RC (Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre). It was evaluated under 4 categories, with a checklist of 20 parameters among 40 patient care areas. Simple random sampling technique is used to select the study subjects for the KAP questionnaire. At VIMS & RC, the BMW Results: management mean observation was at the level of “Condition of waste receptacles” were good (95.79%) & least observation noted with “waste transportation” (52.5%). The total Infectious waste generated was 0.135kg/bed/day and the hospital has got separate colour coded bins in each ward for collection of waste. The safety measure taken by health care workers regarding KAP of biomedical waste management was not satisfactory among Class IV Employees and it was not due to unavailability of personal protective measures but because of un-awareness of health hazards which may occur due to improper waste management practices. It is concluded that there should be strict implementation of waste management policy, proper training and Conclusion: motivation regarding BMW management for all health care workers in hospital.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Breast carcinoma is the second most common malignancy in India preceded by cervical carcinoma. Palpable breast lumps either self detected or identi?ed by clinician are common, ef?cient evaluation and prompt diagnosis are necessary to rule out malignancy. Clinical examination, radiological evaluation and tissue sampling – Triple assessment needed for de?nitive diagnosis. FNAC has a good sensitivity, speci?city and accuracy in the diagnosis of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic breast lumps. The present study is aimed to analyse the incidence and various cytomorphological sprectrum of breast lesions done by FNAC. Materials & Methods: This is retrospective observational study conducted in Department of Pathology, Government Medical College/ Government General Hospital, Suryapet, Telangana from January 2020 to December 2021 (2years). Clinical history was taken and FNAC done. Smears are stained with H&E stain and assessed. Results: In our study, 87 female patients were analysed. Age group of patients ranged from 15years to 70years. There was slight preponderance in right breast lesions 45cases(51.7%). Most common lesion in our study was ?broadenoma which constituted 36 cases (41.3%), peak incidence in 21-30year age group. Second most common lesion was duct cell carcinoma accounting for 27cases(31%), peak incidence seen in 41-50years age group. Conclusion FNAC is a simple, safe, cost effective procedure which is a component of triple assessment. It helps to differentiate benign from malignant lesions in majority of cases when combined with clinical and radiological examination for de?nitive management.

ABSTRACT

Cloverleaf deformity is an extremely rare skull deformity that happens when mutiple joints (sutures) between a baby's skull bones begin to fuse too premature. Also known as Kleeblattschädel syndrome, the cloverleaf deformity causes bossing at the front and sides of the skull, resembling a cloverleaf shape. Cloverleaf skull syndrome is an abnormal configuration of the calvaria classified as Craniosynostosis, consisting of premature ossification of cranial bones. It is a deformity characterized by a remarkable enlargement of the head, with a trilobed configuration of the frontal view, resembling a three leaved clover .The first report about such a syndrome in the literature occurred in 1973 and, over the years only some tens of cases have been documented worldwide. The present report describes a case of a severe craniofacial condition that is known as "cloverleaf skull syndrome". On Physical examination multiple malformations were observed, with altered craniofacial configuration, low set ear, hypertelorism, exopthalmos, syndactyly, closed anterior fontanelle, high arched palate, bilateral CTEV. The vast majority of patients with kleeblattschädel have mentalretardation and hydrocephalus. It is usually seen in thanatophoric dysplasia: classically type II only, severe Apert syndrome, severe Crouzon syndrome, Boston-type craniosynostosis & Carpenter syndrome. Craniosynostosis has an overall incidence of 1 in 2100 to 1 in 2500 live births with multi-suture craniosynostosis constituting about 5% of all the cases

ABSTRACT

The present study assessed 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis method as a tool for identification of fluorescent pseudomonads phenotypically difficult to identify. Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing the isolates were identified to the genus level to the species level. In this study, phylogenetic tree was constructed using complete sequence within the 16S rRNA gene. Distance tree was constructed to find out genetic similarity between the organisms. Although the phylogenetic analysis is not decisive, it is consistent with other observations, especially the capacities of the strain as a biocontrol agent. The results suggest that the JS16, JS7, JS31 and JS52 and strains are high homology with Pseudomonas fluorescens, P. Plecogloccida and P. Putida.
