ABSTRACT

Students’ engagement in academic-related learning activities is one of the important determinants of students’ success. Identifying the best teaching strategies to sustain and promote nursing students’ engagement in academic and clinical settings has always been a challenge for nurse educators. Hence, it is essential to provide a set of strategies for maintaining and enhancing the academic engagement of nursing students. The purpose of this review was to explore and summarize the strategies that nurse educators use to sustain and promote nursing students’ engagement in academic and clinical settings. A narrative literature review was conducted. CINAHL (nursing content), ProQuest, Medline, the Cochrane, Google Scholar, and Scopus were searched. Of 1,185 retrieved articles, 32 teaching strategies were identified and extracted from the nursing literature. We used thematic analysis approach to organize these strategies into five main categories as follows: technology-based strategies (15 articles), collaborative strategies (10 articles), simulation-based strategies (two articles), research-based strategies (two articles), and miscellanea learning strategies (three articles). As a general comment, these strategies have the potential to promote nursing students’ engagement. Among the strategies discussed in this review, the use of technology, particularly the response system and online learning, was more common among nursing educators, which is in line with today’s advances in smart technologies. The collection presented in this review can be used as a starting point for future research to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on the academic engagement of nursing students. Nevertheless, due to the lack of experimental studies, the optimal strategies remain to be elucidated through future high-quality experimental study.

ABSTRACT

Atherosclerosis is a chronic slow-developing condition affecting medium-size and large blood vessels. It is the principal underlying pathology of coronary heart disease and stroke. In some countries, coronary artery disease [CAD] is the cause of nearly half [48%] of the deaths and, loss of productivity life. Peripheral arterial disease [PAD] is defined as atherosclerosis in peripheral arteries instead of coronary arteries. CAD and PAD have same risk factors and underlying pathophysiological processes. Therefore, patient with CAD should be considered for PAD. Ankle brachial index [ABI], duplex sonography, and some other non-invasive techniques are recommended for PAD diagnosis in patients with the history of CAD. Pharmacotherapy, endovascular interventions, and surgical management could be chosen according to the patient's situation. Cardiologists and general practitioners should consider PAD in a patient with CAD or DM as a strong correlated disease

ABSTRACT

Intruduction: Borderline personality disorder cause emotional distress like impulsivity

Purpose: The purpose of current research is the Effectiveness of Cognitive- Analysis Psychotherapy in reducing impulsivity of Men with Borderline Personality Disorder

Methods: This research was a semi-experimental with pretest- posttest design with a two months follow-up. Population in this study consisted all the men with borderline personality disorder admitted to a psychiatric clinic and psychiatric hospital of Farabi in 2013 in Kermanshah city. 40 people were selected based on purposive sampling method and were placement using random sampling method in two experimental and control groups. For gathering data Structured Clinical Interview for personality disorders, Millon clinical multiaxial inventory and impulsivity scale, were used. The gathered data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance

Results: Findings of multivariate analysis of covariance showed that Cognitive- Analysis Psychotherapy was effective in reducing of impulsivity in men with borderline personality disorder

Conclusion: According to our findings, Cognitive- Analysis Psychotherapy is a useful strategy for reducing impulsivity in patients with borderline personality disorder and it can be used as a suitable intervention

ABSTRACT

Varicella-zoster [VZV] is an exclusively human pathogen. The primary infection typically occurs during childhood and causes varicella. As other members of the herpes viruses' family, VZV is noninfectious in its latent form but can reactivate at a later time to form intact virions in the involved sensory neurons. These virions then migrate to the skin through axons, spread from cell to cell, and penetrate the epidermis. A 72-year old woman with history of diabetes mellitus and hypertension hospitalized because of urinary retention, weakness and parestesia in right leg complicated with vesicuoulcerative lesions in sacral area with distribution to right buttock and vagina. Lumbar puncture confirmed inflammatory radiculopathy and showed aseptic meningitis. Treatment was commenced with acyclovir and prednisolone. Patient enjoyed healthy life thereafter. Motor weakness in non-cranial nerve is one of the zoster complications that known as zoster paresis. Weakness begins suddenly 2-3 weeks after rash and progress to extremities. In the present case nerve involvement was detected 3 weeks after rash

ABSTRACT

The sternoclavicular joint is an unusual site for bacterial infection. In this case, we describe a 25-year-old man who presented to the emergency department with fever, chills, limited range of motion in the right upper limb along with complaints of severe pain and tenderness in the right upper chest wall and shoulder. He was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. This patient admitted to a history of injecting heroin use during the previous three months. The diagnosis of septic arthritis of the right sternoclavicular joint was confirmed by blood culture and MRI of the sternoclavicular joint. This case is, to the best of our knowledge, the 25th recorded staphylococcal septic sternoclavicular arthritis. He received appropriate intravenous antibiotic therapy and subsequently was discharged two weeks later with complete clinical and laboratory recovery
