ABSTRACT
Objetivou-se conhecer a atuação dos enfermeiros perante a violência doméstica contra o idoso. Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo cujos dados foram coletados através de um questionário semiestruturado. Os resultados indicaram o abandono como o tipo de violência mais referida e, como os principais autores, os filhos; dos enfermeiros, 76% afirmaram identificar situações de violência, e destes, mais da metade informaram notificar os casos de abuso (52%). As dificuldades dos profissionais em lidar com os trâmites de notificação, detecção e intervenção foram os obstáculos referidos. Pode-se constatar uma grande fragilidade na forma com que esses profissionais atuam frente aos maus-tratos contra o idoso, principalmente no que diz respeito à identificação e à notificação.
This research aims the understanding of the role of nurses faced with domestic violence against the elderly. This is a qualitative-quantitative study. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. The results indicated abandonment as the most reported type of violence and their offspring as the main authors. 76% of the nurses said they identified situations of violence. More than half of them reported the cases of abuse (52%). The reluctance of the elderly to report the abuse and the difficulties of professionals to deal with the procedures for notification, detection and intervention were referred as obstacles. From the data, we can conclude that there is great uncertainty in how these professionals work when they face abuse against the elderly, especially regarding identification and reporting.
