ABSTRACT

Several researchers believe that thyroid autoimmunity is more prevalent in patients with hepatitis C than in the general population, however this is still a controversial issue. The aim of the current study was to determine 1] the frequency of thyroid autoantibodies, 2] the frequency of thyroid dysfunction, 3] correlation of thyroid autoantibodies and dysfunction with demographic and clinical variables, in patients with chronic hepatitis C. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 250 patients with chronic hepatitis C; patients were selected by simple non sampling from patients referring to the Tehran Hepatitis Center in 2003 and 2004. Demographic data [age, sex, educational level, job] and clinical variables [including risk factors, liver enzymes, liver histopathology, HCV RNA viral load], were obtained. Anti Thyronin [TPO Ab, 124], Anti thyroglobulin [TG Ab, n=117], TSH [n=239], T3 [n=242], T4 [n=245], T3RU [n=134] was tested. TPO Ab and TG Ab were seen in 4% and 3.4% respectively. 1.2% had the history of thyroid diorders. 4 subjects had thyrotoxicosis, 1 subject had Hashimoto thyroiditis, 3 subjects had subclinical hyperthyroidisem, and 5 patients had subclinical hypothyroidisem. Positive TPO Ab had a statistical correlation that was marginally significant correlation with cirrhosis, physical symptoms and history of traditional phlebotomy [0.05

ABSTRACT

Current study aimed to assess the possibility of prediction of continuous performance test in primary school children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, with parents and teacher reports of inattention, hyperactivity and oppositional behavior.Fifteen school aged children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder without co-morbid psychiatric disorders were selected from Roozbeh child and adolescent psychiatry clinic. Teachers and parent Conner's questionnaires. Continuous Performance Test and 4 class dictation scores were registered from each subject.Commission errors were correlated with hyperactivity scale in the parent report [r=-0.50, p<0.05], and with ADHD score [r=-0.49, p<0.05]. Omission error was correlated with inattention [r=0.66, p<0.05] and ADHD score [r=0.51, p<0.05] on teachers report. Reaction time was correlated with oppositional [r=0.51, p<0.05] subscale in parents Conner's questionnaire. Dictation scores were correlated with inattention on parents report[r-0.52, p<0.05] and omission on Continuous Performance Test [r=-0.79, p<0.05].Current study reported a significant correlation between neuropsychological tests and questionnaires, in ADHD

ABSTRACT

Background: Although, association of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and some family characteristics has been reported, less attention has been focused on the correlation between raw Conners' scores and family characteristics in general population. While higher raw Conners' score indicates more possibility of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, detection of such correlation highlights the need for screening of this disorder in some families. Aim of this study was to assess the possible correlation of raw Conners' scores and family characteristics in general population of primary school children

Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study, parent's and teacher's Conner's questionnaire and a checklist containing family variables was administered to 1000 primary school children who were randomly selected from all primary schools in Shahrekord, in 2002. 819 subjects entered the study

Results: Raw Conners' scores were correlated with history of referral of father to psychiatrist, long absence of father from home, history of change in job of father, job of parents, educational level of parents, history of legal problems of parents, smoking of parents, drugs addiction by parents[p<0.05]. There were no correlation between raw Conners' scores and history of referral of mother to psychiatrist, history of referral of siblings to psychiatrist, long absence of father from home or living together of parents [p>0.05[

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, screening of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is recommended in those children whose father have history of referral to the psychiatrist, have long absence from home, with a history of change of job, or with parents with some jobs, with low educational levels, with history of legal problems, smoking or drugs addiction
