ABSTRACT

The changes in socio-economic and technological factors have caused auto drivers in Mysore city, as well as other cities in India, to experience a variety of economic challenges. The current study work explores the economic issues vehicle drivers in Mysore City experience, as well as the elements that contribute to these issues. A survey of 80 Auto drivers in Mysore city served as the basis for the study. The results indicate that drivers of autos have a range of financial issues, including poor pay, high operating costs, competition from cab services that operate through apps and a lack of social security benefits. The study finishes with suggestions for legislative changes to enhance the financial circumstances of Mysore city's auto drivers. The study identifies the serious economic issues that affect Mysore city's auto drivers and makes recommendations for potential policy changes that the government may take to help them. Policymakers can guarantee that auto drivers can continue to offer residents vital transport services while also raising their level of life by addressing these issues.

ABSTRACT

Background: Increasing popularity of Mathan Tailam (mattan tailam, pachai ennai) for the treatment ofdiabetic foot ulcer necessitated standardization and quality control of this medicated oil both in largescale production and quality check in marketed drug.Objective: Present study aims to develop standard operating procedure for the preparation of MathanTailam as per Siddha Formulary of India and its standardization using suitable analytical techniques.Materials and methods: Mathan Tailam was prepared as per Siddha Formulary of India. Physicochemicalparameters and preliminary phytochemical screening were carried out using standard methods. The inhouse prepared sample underwent physico-chemical analysis, qualitative phytochemical analysis, Gaschromatography-mass spectrum (GC-MS) analysis, High performance thin layer chromatographic(HPTLC) fingerprinting profile and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopic (ICP-OES)analysis.Results: Physico-chemical parameters of the prepared formulation were comparable to that of coconutoil. Aqueous methonolic extract of this drug was found to be positive for alkaloid, saponin, coumarin,steroid, triterpinoid, quinine and furan. The GC-MS values were comparable to that of the base used i.e.,the coconut oil. HPTLC fingerprinting profile revealed the presence of phytochemicals in the medicatedoil derived from both coconut oil and Datura metel. ICP-OES addressed the mineral portion of theformulation and its safety in heavy metal aspect.Conclusion: All these parameters can be utilized for the overall quality check over its preparation andformulation.© 2017 Transdisciplinary University, Bangalore and World Ayurveda Foundation. ABSTRACT

Background: Identification of the nature of an adnexal mass can ensure optimum management. Single parameters as well as diagnostic models using a combination of several parameters are in use. The International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) consortium has developed and published the Assessment of Different NEoplasias in the adneXa (ADNEX) model, which differentiates between benign and malignant masses. Authors conducted this study with the aim of finding a cut off value for this model in the study population and comparing the diagnostic accuracy of this model to that of the risk of malignancy (RMI).Methods: Women with adnexal masses admitted to the 3 medical college affiliated hospitals for surgical management were included in this study. Appropriate investigations were done to calculate the RMI-I and ADNEX score for each participant. A cut off score for the ADNEX model was determined and diagnostic accuracy tests were done for comparison.Results: At a cut-off of 29 for the ADNEX model and 200 for RMI model the sensitivity was 75% and 77.8, specificity 100% and 80.6%; Positive Predictive Value (PPV) 100%and 60%; Negative Predictive Value (NPV) 91% and 90.6%; Positive Likelihood ratio of infinity and 4 and a negative Likelihood Ratio of 2.8 and 2.5 respectively.Conclusions: The ADNEX model rates higher than the RMI in almost all tests of diagnostic accuracy and can be used for triaging, framing a referral policy and prioritizing surgery.
