ABSTRACT

In this study, 10 root-form endosseous screw type implants [impladrill] were placed immediately into freshly extracted bony sockets of upper central incisors, for 10 patients. The patients were randomly divided into 2 groups, 5 patients each. In group A, the implants were inserted, and the implant site was sutured. While, in group B, soft laser beam was applied to the implant site. The implant was left, unloaded and submerged into the bone, for a healing period of 6 months. At the end of this healing period, each implant head [super structure] was inserted in place, an impression was taken, and a porcelain crown was fabricated. The crown was cemented in place within 1-2 weeks. The healing process was evaluated clinically after one week postoperatively, then after 1, 3, 6 and 9 months after the fixation of the crown. The results of this study suggested that immediate placement of endosseous implants into a fresh extraction site is possible predictable and a simple procedure, thereby, shortening the total treatment time. There is no difference between the conventional implantation and the immediate one. Also, there is no difference between the studied cases with the use of soft laser. The soft laser application has only showed some improvement in flap healing

ABSTRACT

Fifteen workers with COLD from a jute and hemp plant, and Twenty three workers with chronic obstructive. They were assessed by ventilatory function tests and then subjected to special physical therapeutic pulmonary exercises namely postural drainage, chest percussion, vibration and cough enhancement. Reevaluation of the symptoms after physiotherapy showed improvement as all symptoms were less severe after therapy than before it [Table 2]. There was significant increase in FEV1% [p< 0 .01] where the mean FEV1% increased from 57.07 before physiotherapy to 70.76 after treatment. The FCV% showed insignificant increase after treatment [Table 4] but the values of FVC% already good before starting treatment. The rate of change in FEV1% with physical therapy among smokers did not show significant correlation with the duration of exposure. So, we can recommend physiotherapy for all workers showing obstructive bronchitis whether they are smokers or non - smokers and whether exposed to jute dust for short or long periods. We conclude that, physiotherapy is beneficial in cases of chronic abstructive bronchitis in the nitrate fertilizer industry, especially those working in the packing section who were exposed to the cacium nitrate test. Smokers and non - smokers benefit from physiotherapy, but non - smokers showed better degree of improvement. All the age groups showed improvement with physiotherapy

ABSTRACT

Trace elements content of scalp hair was done to 52 Egyptian children suffering from hypochromic microcytic anaemia, and living in industrial districts at low socioeconomic and nutritional status. The study revealed a significantly high content of lead and low content of zince and copper. The iron content was significantly increased in younger age group [1-6 years old], but within the normal range in the older age group [7-12 years old]. In the mean time serum iron was slightly decreased, while the serum iron binding capacity was within normal ranges. These results suggested a concomitant lead intoxication with iron deficiency anaemia in malnourished children who are at risk of lead exposure. Recommendations are suggested for further studies and for prevention

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on 4 groups of subjects: group I included 54 bilharzial patients, group II 118 patients suffering from gastroenteritis, group III 62 pig's contacts, group IV 40 healthy individuals. The results of stool culture revealed only 3 positive cases among the diseased groups, contracts and healthy controls making an incidence of 1.7%. The IHA test showed a higher percentage of positivity [38.7%] in the group of pig's contact than the other groups, also the rate of positivity in bilharzial patients is higher than in patients of gastroenteritis [11.1% and 5.9% respectively]. ELISA showed the same sequence of positivity as IHA. The results of ELISA and IHA showed a fair agreement by Kappa measure, however, ELISA is more specific as out of 39 serum samples which gave positive IHA, 6 samples showed Brucella Abs and only 2 of them gave positive ELISA

ABSTRACT

During the climacteric period of life, complex changes take place. One of the body functions that could be affected and might affect denture retention and tissue tolerance is the salivary flow rate. In this study the parotid salivary flow rate [PSFR] was recorded in edentulous menopausal females and compared with that of non-menopausal and non-lactating females. In the meantime, the effect of acrylic versus metallic dentures on the PSFR in menopausal females was detected. The results revealed that the PSFR in non-menopausal was higher than that of menopausal females. In the meantime, for both types of dentures immediately after denture insertion the PSFR was increased but returned to its original level after one month of denture being in use. Moreover, there was no difference between acrylic and metallic denture base materials regarding the affection on the PSFR

ABSTRACT

Tonsils from 60 patients with recurrent tonsillitis were bacteriologically studied. Twenty were previously given oral penicillin, 20 were given clindamycin [active agent against BLPB] and 20 were given no therapy. Also 20 tonsils removed from dead persons were bacteriologically studied. Fifty patients with recurrent tonsillitis were treated with clindamycin and followed up without tonsillectomy. It was found that BLPB is the major cause for recurrent tonsillitis and agents effective against it were able to reduce or eliminate these attacks
