ABSTRACT
Fifty-eight patients with sixty-four recent closed fractures of the proximal and middle phalanges in the hand were treated either by closed manipulation and plaster of Paris fixation or by open reduction and Kirschner wire fixation. It was concluded that open reduction and Kirschner wire fixation is indicated for severely displaced unstable oblique, intra-articular, as well as failed conservative treatment. The results and complications are briefly discussed
