ABSTRACT
To evaluate the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii among Saudi pregnant women in Najran City, as well as to measure the performance of the diagnostic tests used. A total of 96 women attending prenatal special clinics [Oteafyn special clinic] in Najran Province, Saudi Arabia, over a one year period, from September 2012 to September 2013 were screened for the presence of Toxoplasma antibody in their blood serum using an indirect hemagglutination assay [IHA]. Specific immunoglobulin [Ig] G and IgM antibodies were evaluated using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay [ELISA]. Out of the 96 samples of sera tested using IHA, 20 [20.8%] were found to be positive with a titer ranging from 1:80 to 1:320, while 29 [29.2%] and 3 [3.1%] revealed Toxoplasma IgG and Toxoplasma IgM. A positive relationship was found between the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and age of tested women, especially in the age group of 21-30 years old [54.7%] by using ELISA-IgG, and 31-40 years old [4.5%] by using ELISA-IgM. The seroprevalence of Toxoplasmosis among pregnant women was found to be comparatively high, compared with previous reports from Saudi Arabia. Serologic checkup before and during pregnancy for seronegative women is recommended
ABSTRACT
In the postmortem examination of 54 adult donkeys slaughtered for the carnivore animals in Kafr El-Sheikh Zoological Garden, Dictyocaulus arnfieldi [Cobbold, 1884] Railliet and Henry, 1907 was demonstrated in their lungs. The biological data of the different developmental stages were recorded and discussed, where the period required for maturation, hatching and development of 2[nd] and 3[rd] stage larvae was 84 hours, general discussion was given

One hundred and ten milk samples were collected from 35 dairy cows with recurrent mastitis and 75 apparently healthy ones. The field application of California Mastitis Test [CMT] on the apparently healthy cows indicated 60% [45 out of 75 cows] with sub-clinical mastitis. The estimation of SCC recorded 31.8% [35 samples] above Ixl0[6] cell/ml, 40.9% [45 samples] were ranged between 4xl0[5] to Ixl0[5] cell/ml and 27.3% [30 samples] were less than 4xl0[5] cell/ml. The bacteriological examination revealed 10% facultative anaerobic bacteria from normal milk samples, while both facultative and obligatory anaerobic bacteria were 62.2% from sub-clinical and 100% from clinical mastitic milk samples. The highly effective antibiotics on the isolated bacteria in the laboratory were florofenicol, tetradelta, gentamicin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, refampicin and metronidazol

Radiofrequency ablation [RFA] and percutaneous ethanol injection [PEI] therapy are currently used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC]. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of combined PEI-RFA versus RFA alone for ablation of HCC. Twenty seven patients with liver cirrhosis and HCC which was 5 - cm in diameter and - 3 in number were enrolled in this study, 12 patients were treated with RFA alone [group I] and 15 patients were treated with PEI-RFA [group II] Post treatment response was assessed by fine needle aspiration biopsy or cytology [FNAB or FNAC] and/or spiral C.T. The overall success rate for tumor ablation in group II was significantly higher [93.75%] than group I [58.33%] [P=0.03] ,with fewer treatment sessions [only 11.7% in group II needed more than one treatment session compared to 58.3%. in group I]. No mortalities or major complications were reported with any of the techniques used. During the follow up period local recurrence occurred in two lesions in two patients in group I [16.67%] versus no reported cases in group II, 58.33% in group I need to do other ablative modalities versus 13.35 in group II [P=0.01]. In conclusion; PEI-RFA is a safe, practical, and effective modality with fewer treatment sessions for the treatment of HCC than RFA alone
