ABSTRACT

Binary ethyleneimine [BEI] was used to inactivate the local Egyptian strain of sheep pox virus. The inactivation process was applied using final concentrations of BEI at 0.5, 1, 2 and 3% for different incubation periods at 37 dgree C. The virus was completely inactivated after 7 hours incubation with by 2% BEI final concentration; the inactivated virus was adsorbed on aluminium hydroxide gel when incubated for 6 hours in a concentration 1:1. The antibody levels were estimated by virus neutralization test and ELISA. Specific antibodies appeared from the 1[st] week post vaccination and remained until the 4[th] week post challenge. The prepared vaccine was evaluated for safety, sterility and potency. The vaccine proved to be safe, sterile and inducing protection for the vaccinated lambs when challenged by the virulent sheep pox virus up to 6 months post vaccination

ABSTRACT

Analysis of expressed mRNAs with differential display-polymerase chain reaction [DD-PCR] is a powerful tool for the characterization of genes involved in malignant pathways and might identify markers for different phases of chronic myelogenous leukaemia [CML]. We examined the presence of BCR-ABL transcripts in 25 CML patients in either the chronic phase or blast crisis. We then analysed the expression of leukocytic RNA transcripts in CML phases. DD-PCR technique was used to examine CML cases with BCR-ABL in comparison with CML cases lacking detectable BCR-ABL transcripts. Our results support the use of differential display not only for characterization of the CML differentially expressed genes but also to locate patterns that can be implemented as valuable fingerprints for each phase of CML

ABSTRACT

Neonatal sepsis is a serious problem with high morbidity and mortality. Serum Procalcitonin, C[3] and C[4] levels were estimated in 30 neonates suffering from neonatal sepsis. Further investigations were done including: Complete blood picture, blood culture, CRP, ESR, CSF examination and chest X-ray. Eighteen matched healthy neonates were included as a control group. Serum procalcitonin level was significantly elevated in neonates suffering from septicemia [p<0. 001] and its level was significantly related to the severely affected cases suffering from meningitis, [p<0. 05] and those with poor outcome [P<0.01]. The mean levels of C[3] and C[4] in the study group were lower than controls but these differences were not statistically significant [P>0.05]. Also, there was no significant relationship between the level of C[3] and C[4] and severity of the cases or outcome. We can conclude that procalcitonin can be considered as an interesting diagnostic and prognostic marker of neonatal sepsis

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to gather information about hypertensive patients to assess their characteristics knowledge, life-style and to clear the risk groups, whom are liable to be hypertensive patients. The study was done in Ain Shams University Hospital and El.Salam Mohandseen hospital, in medical section, both in out patients clinics and inpatient sections 200 patients previously diagnosed as hypertensive were included in this study [regardless of aetiology from both sex and more than 20 years old age and 50 persons have all the previous characteristics except they are not hypertensive as a control group. The data was collected by a-pre designed interviewing questionnaire schedule and a physical assessment sheet. The results showed that hypertensives patients are in need to change their life style to control hypertension this include achieving ideal body weight restricting sodium intake, daily exercise, learning techniques to relax and reduce stress in daily life. Prevention of drinking caffeine content which elevate blood pressures prevention of smoking and also the hypertensive patients need continuous follow-up care
