ABSTRACT

Despite of the progress in the field of nursing achieved in the last twenty years, yet the problem of care of tracheostomy remains a deficient field in the care of these patients resulting in the occurrence of so many avoidable morbidities and mortalities, if proper nursing care is applied. Accordingly an inservice training program is needed for the nurses to be able to alleviate, minimize, and manage these serious problems, especially that proper nursing care is mandatory in such procedure to minimize complications. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop, implement and evaluationing after the implementation of the program. Results revealed that there were a strong positive correlation between pre- post knowledge scores, a marked increase in mean scores as obtained by observational checklist for the three time observation, as well as a strong positive correlation between post knowledge mean scores and the performance mean scores. Awareness of these findings illustrate the importance of creation of comprehensive and applicable staff development programs
