ABSTRACT

Immunofluorescence procedure was applied to measure thyroid autoantibody for the first time in immunology laboratory, Sadam Medical City Hospital. Antibodies to thyroid microsomal [TM], throglobulin [TG] and second colloid Ag [CA2] were studied. The technique was standardized using blood from 156 patients suffering from various thyroid diseases and 95 normal controls age and sex matched with patients. Immunofluorescence test [IF] was compared with the standard haemagglutination method [HA]. It had been found that IF was more sensitive and much cheaper than HA, as the antigen could be prepared locally in the laboratory, while kit for HA is usually imported from abroad-sources. However, application of HA for those sera which were positive by IF would be more beneficial for the patients
