ABSTRACT

Serum Copper Zinc and Cu/Zn ratio were estimated in 46 cases of histologically proven cases of malignancies of Upper Respiratory Tract. The rise in serum Cu and Cu/Zn ratio and the fall in serum Zn was found to be statistically significant as compared to controls. No significant alteration in these values were detected when malignancies situated in different regions of U.R.T. were compared. On comparing metastatic with nonmetastatic growths, the difference in the values of these trace elements was significant. While serum Cu and Cu/Zn ration exhibited significant changes in their levels, postoperatively serum Zn failed to record any significant changes. It is suggested that determination of these trace elements may serve as a simple diagnostic and prognostic tool in malignancy of U.R.T.

ABSTRACT

Gentamicin, 135 mg/kg body weight was administered to albino rats, intramuscularly, for 21 days. Perfusion fixation of the brain was done by 10% formaline. Discrete regions of the central auditory pathway i.e. pons, inferior colliculus, medial geniculate body and auditory cortex were dissected out for light microscopic examination. Paraffin embeded sections were stained by routine Haematoxylin Eosin, Thionin, Luxol-Fast blue and Fink Heimer technique of staining. Degenerative change were observed in all the regions of central auditory pathway

ABSTRACT

Many workers have reported increased frequencies of malformations and chromosome breakages in lymphocyte cultures from women taking oral contraceptives, whereas other studies have shown no increase in aberration frequencies in cultures from pill users. Because estrogens and progestins make up the ingredients of the widely used oral contraceptives, we planned to study synthetic and natural estrogens and progestines in an in-vitro system, and in different concentrations
