ABSTRACT

This study is an extension of an earlier, randomized; placebo-controlled that showed the efficacy of nitazoxanide [NTZ] 500 mg tablets twice daily for 6 months in treating HCV genotype 4. Access was available to 13/32 patients of the original study with chronic HCV during more than 3 years after the study was finished. One patient [with portal hypertension and oesophageal varices [O.V]] was among 3 with SVR out of 9 of the NTZ treated patients suggesting that NTZ could successfully be used even in patients with O.V. SVR remain so up to the end of the follow-up period compared to none of the other 4 patients who received placebo. A fourth patient of NTZ group achieved virological response at the end of follow-up although she firstly showed RVR and then viral breakthrough. Most of the remaining patients of the NTZ group who did not achieve SVR showed variable partial response. No serious adverse events were reported in both groups during treatment and thereafter

ABSTRACT

The objective of this investigation is to throw the light on the biochemical changes of cerebrospinal fluid electrolytes, sodium, potassium and bicarbonate in normal control and congenital hydrocephalus CSF samples of children, their ages ranged from 0.6 to 3 years]. These electrolytes regulate hydration and dehydration intracellular. The results revealed a nonsignificant decreasing of sodium with slightly decreasing in potassium and bicarbonate compared with control CSF samples. Although there is a significant decrease in Na + and K + [P <0.01] and Na+/HCO3 [P <0.01] in hydrocephalus patients, while insignificant decreasing of K + and HCO3 in the same patients. The results suggested that decreasing of CSF electrolytes is relatively to defect of brain membrane permeability or humoral contribution

ABSTRACT

This study included 27 patients with primary hyperoxaluria and 25 healthy controls. The hyperoxaluric patients highly increasing of lactate dehydrogerase [LDH] in erytrocytes than control-without correlation with oxalic acid excretion in urine. Inorganic phosphorous in red cells of nephrolithiasis calcium oxalate indicated there is increasing with invert highly correlation with urine oxalic acid excretion and negative correlation with [LDH] activity although there is highly significant correlation with [LDH] activity of the control [RBC]. Also, potassium ions in red cell indicated slightly increasing than control with invert significant correlation within oxalic acid excretion and no correlation with LDH activity

ABSTRACT

This study included 150 blood sugar samples, 50 within normal level, 50 diabetic sample [short term 6-12 months], 50 samples long term [5-10 years] comparing with their isolated leukocytes 5 nucleotidase enzyme. The result indicated that leukocytes [5'NT] level was highly increasing by 10 fold in diabetic patients long term [5-10 years] than normal control or short term [6-12 months] diabetic patients, with highly significant correlation. Also, there was no correlation between blood sugar level or serum [5'NT] level

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out at 40 human normal subjects aged [30-45 years]. Glutamate oxalacetate transaminase [LGOT] and glutamate pyruvate transaminase [LGPT] and magnesium Mg2+ were measured in isolated neutrophil leukocytes. Moreover, there is a strong association of the activity of [LGOT] with [LGPT]. Also, strong association of [LGPT] activity and Mg2+. Results indicated the interlink of [LGOT] and [LGPT] activities with Mg2+ in leukocytes is useful new prognostic index of muscle metabolism and contraction

ABSTRACT

In a study of apparently healthy 100 serum samples divided to 3 groups according to serum cholesterol level, a highly correlation between serum cholesterol/calcium ratio and low density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL-C] was noted. The TC/Ca+2 ratio was used to determine whether this was better than TC by itself. This ratio performed better than TC and correctly classified according to LDL-C. Also, TC/albumin ratio was used noted a highly significant with serum triglycerides than TC by itself. A very highly significance of TC/Ca+2 ratio and TC/albumin was noticed. Since measurements of TC albumin and calcium are routinely available on multichannel analysis, use of this ratios would provide a less expensive alternative to LDL-C or triglycerides measurements and more predicted
