ABSTRACT

This laboratory study compared three types of dental X-ray films for their diagnostic accuracy in detection of proximal surface dental caries. Two examiners provided the results of radiographic detectability of carious lesions. The diagnostic accuracy of each film was determined by comparing radiographic data with the true state of the teeth as determined microscopically. It was concluded that both ultraspeed [D-speed] and ektaspeed [E-speed] films are better than instant film in detecting proximal caries. None of the three films can adequately detect actual depth of carious lesions

ABSTRACT

In order to study the level of transferrin in crevices related to class II amalgam overhangs, samples of gingival fluid were taken from overhang and homologue sites of 25 male subjects. The findings of the present study revealed that transferrin level was significantly lowered at overhang site, while a negative correlation was found between marginal bone loss and transferrin level. It was concluded that transferrin is implicated in the pathogenesis of periodontal destruction associated with class II amalgam overhangs
