ABSTRACT

Orbital complications due to ethmoiditis are rare in neonates. A case of orbital abscess due to acute ethmoiditis in a 28‑day‑old girl is presented. A Successful outcome was achieved following antimicrobial therapy alone; spontaneous drainage of the abscess occurred from the lower lid without the need for surgery. From this case report, we intend to emphasize on eyelid retraction as a sign of neonatal orbital abscess, and to review all the available literature of similar cases.

ABSTRACT

To determine the following: [1] to find out how primary health care [PHC] physicians manage their continuing medical education [CME]; [2] to find out how important they felt continuing medical education to be; [3] to assess the methods of continuing medical education available to them; [4] to provide guidance in modifying their continuing medical education. A survey using a self-administered questionnaire sent by post about the determination of CME requirements among 210 PHC physicians. Riyadh region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Item scores for attitudes, set patterns for learning, methods of learning, times and barriers to CME, and suitable timing for future CME activities. 85.7% physicians responded. A majority of them felt that it was important to keep up-to-date and set aside a few hours a week to do this. Activities during the working day, week-long courses, and weekend courses, were the preferred times for setting these activities; small groups and consultant's discussions were also favoured. Newer forms of CME, e.g., audio and videotapes and distance learning, are still unpopular. Books and journals remain the preferred means of CME. The results may help educational planners and academic departments to ration the implementation and use of resources, as well as guide their efforts and energy to devise new learning formats
