ABSTRACT

Cryopreservation has an immunomodulating effect on tracheal tissue as a result of class II antigen depletion due to epithelium exfoliation. However, not all epithelium is detached. We evaluated the role of apoptosis in the remaining epithelium of 30 cryopreserved tracheal grafts. Caspase-3 immunoreactivity of tracheal epithelium was studied in canine tracheal segments cryopreserved with F12K medium, with or without subsequent storage in liquid nitrogen at -196°C for 15 days. Loss of structural integrity of tracheal mixed glands was observed in all cryopreserved tracheal segments. Caspase-3 immunoreactivity in tracheal mucosa and in mixed glands was significantly decreased, in contrast to the control group and to cryopreserved tracheal segments in which it remained high, due to the effect of storage in liquid nitrogen (P < 0.05, ANOVA and Tukey test). We conclude that apoptosis can be triggered in epithelial cells during tracheal graft harvesting even prior to cryopreservation, and although the epithelial caspase-3 immunoreactivity is reduced in tracheal cryopreservation, this could be explained by increased cell death. Apoptosis cannot be stopped during tracheal cryopreservation.

ABSTRACT

El efecto de altas dosis de azatioprina - prednisona sobre la anastomosis bronquial en el transplante pulmonar fue investigada en el presente trabajo en diez perros. Se realizó un trasplante pulmonar unilateral con anastomosis realizada en forma telescopiada en todos los casos. No observamos complicaciones en el seguimiento de los animales hasta los 18 meses, a pesar de las altas dosis de inmunosupresión

ABSTRACT

Noventa e quatro pacientes ambulatoriais foram sorteados para tres diferentes esquemas terapeuticos da ulcera peptica, a saber: 30 foram tratados (em aberto) com antiacido a cada hora; 64 receberam cimetidina ou placebo (estudo duplamente-cego). Apos quatro semanas 66,3% dos pacientes no grupo antiacido, 56,2% no grupo cimetidina e 9,4% no grupo placebo tiveram cicatrizacao de suas ulceras. A diferenca entre cimetidina e antiacido nao foi estatisticamente significativa. A baixa incidencia de cicatrizacao no grupo placebo, menor do que a relatada em outros experimentos pode ser atribuida a nao ingestao suplementar de antiacidos naquele grupo e/ou ao criterio de estadiar endoscopicamente as lesoes, tanto para a admissao no estudo, quanto para avaliar os resultados

ABSTRACT

Foi estudado o efeito da cimetidina, do antiacido e da dieta livre sobre o pH do conteudo gastrico em 28 pacientes portadores de ulcera peptica. Os resultados demonstraram que a cimetidina, na dose de 300 mg intramuscular de 6 em 6 horas, e o antiacido, na dose de 10 ml de suspensao ministrada de hora em hora, no intervalo das refeicoes, tem o mesmo poder de manter o pH do conteudo gastrico igual ou superior a 3,0
