ABSTRACT
Paravalvular leakage is a rare phenomenon with great symptomatic repercussion. It is the result of a non-hermetic closure between the suture ring and the valve ring. Causes include ring calcification, infection, suture technique, size and shape of the prosthesis (too small) and ring eccentricity. Percutaneous closure of these defects in the valves appeared as a therapeutic option in patients with high surgical risk and reaching a success rate ranging from 60% to 90%. (au)
