ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate patients with Distal Penile Hypospadias who were treated by Inverted Y on V Meatourethroplasty regarding success rate, complications and cosmesis. This was a retrospective study, carried out at Queen Rania Al-Abdulla Hospital for Children from April 2010 to June 2012. Forty four patients with distal Penile Hypospadias without chordee underwent Inverted Y on V Meatourethroplasty. Age of the patients ranged from one and half year to eight years. Mean age was four and half years. Patients were followed up to 18 months post surgery. Thirty three patients [75%] had excellent results without any complications and excellent cosmetic result, while complications were seen in 11 patients, with retracted meatus in six cases [13.6%], fistula in four [9%], and complete disruption in one case [2.3%]. Inverted Y on V Meatourethroplasty can be used successfully for Distal Penile hypospadias repair with excellent cosmetic result, complications rate remains acceptable but we need further evaluation and more experience with this technique

ABSTRACT

The great majority of diarrhea episodes last for less than one week; when diarrhea persists for more than 14 days, it is called persistent, intractable, or chronic diarrhea. We are reporting a case of Ganglioneuroblastoma in a 16 months old girl, who was referred to King Hussein Medical Center for further evaluation of chronic diarrhea. This rare tumor has a yearly occurrence of less than 5 per 1.000.000 children. The child was successfully treated surgically and with chemotherapy with subsidence of diarrhea

ABSTRACT

Cryptorchidism is encountered in 21% of preterm infants, 2-4% of all full term boys and 1% of one year old boys. To present our experience in the utilization of diagnostic laparoscopy for the management of children with impalpable testes. This is a retrospective study conducted between March 2010 and December 2011. The medical records of boys with impalpable testis were reviewed. Diagnostic laparoscopic findings regarding presence, morphological state, and location of testis were analyzed. Special attention to how initial laparoscopy influenced subsequent surgical procedures and management. Fifty four boys underwent laparoscopy with 76 impalpable testes. Forty testes were unilateral impalpable testes, two third of them were left sided. Thirty seven testes were intraabdominal, eight of them were atrophied and excised laparoscopically. Twenty nine of them were viable, 90% of them underwent first stage Fowler-Stephens procedure, while the rest underwent primary laparoscopic orchidopexy. Vas and spermatic vessels were seen entering inguinal canal in 25 testes. This group had immediate inguinal exploration, 22 of testes underwent orchidopexy and three orchidectomy. Fourteen boys found to blind end vas and vessels with no further treatment needed. Laparoscopic exploration should be performed because it accurately identifies and localizes the missing testis. In addition, it facilitates the planning of definitive surgical management of orchidopexy, staged orchidopexy or orchidectomy. So we recommend that initial laparoscopic exploration should be performed for patient with impalpable testis

ABSTRACT

To compare the results of fine needle aspiration cytology [FNAC] and tru-cut biopsy in detecting breast cancer in suspicious breast lumps in outpatient setting. Furthermore, to evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of further histopathological details obtained with tru-cut biopsy, and its effect on preoperative planning of surgical treatment. A total of 175 women who presented to consultant breast surgeon from July 2006 to December 2007 with clinically suspicious breast lump at breast clinic in KHMC were included in this prospective study. After detailed history and physical examination, both FNAC and tru-cut biopsy were performed in an outpatient setting. surgery was done for patients diagnosed to have breast cancer.P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. The sensitivity of FNAC was 90%, specificity near 100%, while sensitivity of tru-cut biopsy was 97%, and specificity 100%. The findings of this study showed that tru-cut biopsy is superior to FNAC in confirming breast cancer in suspicious lumps, and it is able to give definite histology of the lesion, with low cost and low complication rate as only 2% developed minimal bruising. Tru-cut biopsy is more accurate than FNAC. Tru-cut biopsy was able to give histological diagnosis and results correlated 100% with final histopathology report, with further information about tumor type, grade, lymph vascular invasion, and receptors status. It also permitted the eventual use of preoperative adjuvant therapy
