ABSTRACT

Otitis media with effusion refers to fluid in the middle ear space without symptoms of acute infection; it is the most common cause of hearing loss in children Otitis media with effusion is very common in children, especially between the ages of one and three years with a prevalence of 10% to 30% and a cumulative incidence of 80% at the age of four years Research has shown that medication is not so effective in treating Otitis Media with effusion, many are initially treated by simply watching an d waiting. A combination of antibiotic with steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, decongestant, antihistamines and prostaglandin all failed to produce a sustained and significant therapeutic effect Surgery may resolve OME and improve hearing in the short term, but there is less certainty about long-term outcomes. There is large variation in effect between children The operation of myringotomy and ventilation tubes has many complications, damage to the ossiculr chain, dehiscent facial nerve, the tub e may lost in the middle ear, tympano-sclerosis, persistent ear discharge, perforation of the tympanic membrane, obstruction of the tube Supherb's EN Free is a natural preparation for immediate relief and prevention of recurrent middle ear infections, therefore the use of herbs with anti-inflammatory properties, which act to strengthen the immune system [Echinacea, Plantago], have a smoothing and analgesic effect [chamomile] treat secretion, phlegm and congestion in nasal and ear passages and tearing eyes [eyebright]

ABSTRACT

The ideal treatment for allergic rhinitis unresponsive to medical therapy is still lacking. The aim of study is to evaluate the efficacy of turbinate surgery with radio frequency for treatment of allergic rhinitis unresponsive to medical therapy. Twenty patients treated and followed up for two periods, 6 months and 12 months. None of the 20 patients had obvious discomfort, no adverse reactions including bleeding, infection, adhesion, nor a worsening of allergic symptoms. Nasal discharge was improved after 6 months among 14 [70%] [p value 0.03] of cases and dropped to 11 [55%] [p value not significant] after 12 months. After 6 months nasal obstruction was improved among 17 [85%] [p value 0.001] cases and dropped to 16 [80%] p value 0.0016] after 12 months. Other symptoms including nasal itching, sneezing, snoring, headache, eye itching as well anosmia showed dramatic improvement. Radiofrequency appears to be an effective and safe tool for treating allergic rhinitis not responding to medical therapy. In the future, radiofrequency has the potential to be one of the most popular surgical modalities and helps treatment of allergic rhinitis

ABSTRACT

To estimate the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection and associated risk factors in Beit-Lahia town [Gaza Strip]. 600 children aged 3-17 years were examined. The overall prevalence of parasitic infections was 466 [77.7%], Ascaris lumbricoides 245 [40.8%], Strongylloides stercoralis 119 [19.8%], Entamoeba spp. 54 [9.0%], Giardia lamblia 34 [5.7%], H. nana fragment 11 [1.8%] and Trichuris trichiura 3 [0.5%]. 122 cases with multiple infection. Minimal variation of intestinal infections was reported among age groups, females infected more than males, there was inverse relationship between parents' education and intestinal parasites, sewage disposal in sewers was inversely related with intestinal parasites [OR=0.53], and it increases with animal breading in home [OR=2.14 p. value <0.001]
