ABSTRACT

Drug administration can be done through different ways like injection, topical application, phonophoresis and iontophoresis. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of drug administration by iontophoresis and injection of 2% lidocaine with 4% dex…methasone sodium phosphate on pain perception, active range of motion [AROM], motor distal latency [MDL], and motor conduction velocity [MCV] of the median nerve in people with acute unilateral carpal tunnel syndrome [CTS]. Thirty subjects with acute unilateral CTS participated in this study. The results of this study showed significant improvement of wrist movement and reduction in pain and MDL in the acute CTS in treated groups versus control group. The results of this study may suggest the following: 1- The severity of symptoms does not correlate with severity of electrodiagnostic abnormalities. 2- lontophoresis may be considered as a preferable treatment technique in people with acute CTS

ABSTRACT

The high number of visits of hospital employees to the family-medicine clinic, draws attention toward studying the relationship between work lifestyle and employee complaints and/or physical disabilities. The relationship between different job physical, mental requirements and duration of work hours and type of repeated injuries, may lead to sound understanding of the causative factors of such injuries. The aim of this survey study was to become familiarized with the etiology of work-related disorders in King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center and determine their relationship to the design of the workplace. A questionnaire in both Arabic and English language was distributed among employees at different educational occasions, and received the filled-in one. The questions were coded and inserted in an excel sheet for analytical statistics. The results suggested that there is a strong relationship between: Age and sites of complaint pain. Common injuries and work physical and mental stresses, Common injuries and nature of work. Physical disability and repeated injuries at work

ABSTRACT

It is postulated that 30% of adult women in the world are affected with genuine urinary incontinence. Another report in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports the same percentage of the affected Saudi women [30%]. Different treatment protocols have been proposed for the management of genuine urinary incontinence, but other than exercises, they lack scientific support and research evidence. Pulsed electromagnetic field [PEMF] has been proposed to have a great therapeutic input in people with urinary incontinence through improving the metabolic rate of the pelvic floor muscles to relieve pain and muscle spasm. The efficacy of a specific treatment plan, pelvic floor muscle exercises and PEMF. was implemented on twenty patients [male and female] with stress and/or urge incontinence at Physical Therapy Department. King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center. Was to implement the efficacy of pelvic floor muscle training in combination with pulsed electromagnetic stimulation for people with stress incontinence. Twenty patients with stress and/or urge incontinence were participated in this study. The number of usage pads. urge, and the ability of closing urethral orifice during coughing, sneezing, laughing as well as walking, were used as measuring parameters. Patients taught how to do exercises at home at different levels, and received sessions of PEMF. Support the efficacy of the treatment plan of exercises and PEMF on controlling urinary bladder in patients with stress and/or urge incontinence. An average of 16-18 sessions received by the patients were effective to resolve the symptoms in all patients

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of neural mobilization and spinal extension exercises in decreasing pain, hastening neural excitability and increasing, straight leg, raising range in patients with L5-S1 lumbar radiculopathy. Sixty patients with a history of prolapsed disc were involved in the study. Their age ranged from 30-60 years. They were divided randomly into 3 equally groups. Group "1" received neural mobilization, group "2" received spinal extension exercises, and group "3" received both neural mobilization and spinal extension exercises. Pain perception, range of motion of straight leg raise "SLR" and H-reflexi latency of posterior tibial nerve were used as measuring parameters. Results showed that the patients in group "3" got a greatest effect than those in group "1". The patients in group 2 "spinal extension exercises" got the least effect than those in other groups. It was concluded that the cumulative effect of, neural mobilization and spinal extension exercises, is effective to reduce signs of pain and dysfunction for patients with lumbar radiculopathy

ABSTRACT

Manual techniques that isolate the individual joints are often the preferred techniques used by physical therapists for different cervical problems. This is preferable when facet joints become restricted due to mechanical impingement. Mach of the literature is incomplete and seldom describes such things as exact techniques used, the body type and weight of the subjects, the force used, or the duration of the treatments. The aim of the study was to determine the efficacy of thee manual cervical traction on opening the surface area of the intervertebral foraminae "IVF" measured by radiological images. Twenty six male participants were included in this study. Two X-ray images were taken, standard cervical image and the other during application of manual traction to the cervical area. Results showed significant differences of the surface area of the cervical IVF after application of manual traction. The results of this current research indicate that: [1] Unilateral manual cervical traction is effective in opening of IVF of all cervical level, [2] Unilateral manual cervical traction causes more displacement of the IVF of the middle cervical vertebrae more than the upper cervical vertebrae

ABSTRACT

With the advancement of medical research, understanding of the causative factors of different diseases has become increasingly understandable. Man's progress in health sciences leads him to be more civilized than his predecessors from the so called "dark ages". Without reference to the Holy- books which can be considered within context as well-documented historical books from an older era, it would be difficult to know the status of the condition of our predecessors in order to find out differences in hygienic standards for comparison. Believers in Islam may follow seemingly abstract rules guided by the Qura'n and Hadith without knowing the wisdom behind them and raise certain issues about them to non-Muslims that they interact with. The health protocol offered by the Islamic religion by Divine Inspiration and without scientific research appears to be as comprehensive as or better than the well-known, scientific-based health protocols defined currently. Many scientific facts touched upon in the Qura'n and Hadith can be considered by researchers as subject for more research

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to test the changes in sequential electrical activity when the reaching task is at two different points from the reaching limb with and without back support. The electrical activity of the external obliques abdominis and rectus femoris muscles was measured using surface electrode electromyography. Body shift during reaching task was measured by AMTI force plate and foot switch. The results showed the contraction of the external oblique in the side to which the movement coincided with the body shift, while the same muscle on the contralateral side has a significant role in such trunk rotation
