ABSTRACT
Los radicales libres y el estrés oxidativo están involucrados en la etiopatogenia de diversas enfermedades. Ninguno de los llamados biomarcadores del estrés oxidativo consigue de forma aislada una valoración precisa y definitiva del mismo. La recomendación de un estilo de vida sano con ejercicio regular y una dieta basada en productos ricos en antioxidantes parece eficaz para prolongar la supervivencia y reducir ciertas enfermedades. Respecto a los tratamientos antioxidantes existen en la literatura resultados contradictorios, son necesarios más estudios para definir las enfermedades, el momento y el tipo de la intervención, el perfil del paciente, los antioxidantes y sus dosis adecuadas para que estos tratamientos sean exitosos. En esta revisión se trató la relación del estrés oxidativo con el envejecimiento, la enfermedad cardiovascular y neurodegenerativa, además de la terapia antioxidante y la dieta.
The free radicals and the oxidative stress are involved in the pathogenesis of diverse diseases. None of the called biomarkers of the oxidative stress achieve in an isolated way a precise and definitive valuation of this disease. The recommendation of a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a diet based on rich products in antioxidant seems effective to prolong the survival and to reduce certain diseases. There are contradictory findings in the literature regarding the antioxidant treatments. Further studies are necessary to define the diseases, the timing and the type of the intervention as well as the patient's profile, the antioxidant treatments and their appropriate doses for a successful result. In this revision, the relationship between oxidative stress with aging, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disease and antioxidative therapy was explained.
