ABSTRACT

Episiotomy is a common medical procedure for widening the perineum. In fact, perineal pain is the most common complaint after episiotomy. Therefore, it is important to determine factors associated with postoperative pain following episiotomy in order to provide comfort for women after delivery. This study aimed to investigate factors associated with postoperative pain following episiotomy in primiparous women. This analytical, descriptive study was conducted on 119 eligible mothers, selected via convenience sampling, referring to Mashhad Omolbanin Hospital. Childbirth-related information was collected using a questionnaire. Neonates and mothers were also evaluated using Redness, Edema, Ecchymosis, Discharge, and Approximation [REEDA] scale and McGill Pain Questionnaire for perineal pain on days 1, 7, 10, and 14 after delivery. Kolmogorov-Smirnov, one-way ANOVA, Spearman's test, and Pearson's correlation were performed, using SPSS version 16. P-value

ABSTRACT

Postmenopausal women suffer from sleep problems due to night sweats and serotonin deficiency caused by estrogen deficiency. Considering that the cause of different reactions to menopausal symptoms including sleep disturbances has not been recognized, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between personality characteristics and sleep quality in postmenopausal women. This correlational study was carried out on 400 postmenopausal women referred to gynecology clinics of university hospitals in Mashhad, Iran in 2012 who were selected conveniently. Study tools included NEO-FFI personality characteristics questionnaire [including 60 items] and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire. Data were analyzed with SPSS software [version 16] using Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis. The mean age of menopausal women was 52.3 +/- 4.07 years. The mean score of menopausal age was 48.8 +/- 3.5 years and the duration of amenorrhea was 3.8 +/- 1.5 years. The highest and lowest score of personality characteristics was related to "openness to experience" and the "neuroticism", respectively. There was a direct correlation between extroversion and sleep quality [P=0.013]. Considering that extroverted women have a better quality of sleep, it is suggested that personality characteristics of women to be considered in the management protocols of sleep disturbances in post menopausal women

ABSTRACT

Currenthy different pharmaceutical, mechanical, and surgical, techniques are used for cervical ripening. Castor oil, one of the herbal preparations is also widely used for this purpose but few studies have been reported on its efficacy and safety. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of castor oil on cervical ripening. This research is a randomized control clinical trial and the study population were all term pregnant women admitted to selected health clinics in Mashad, Iran in 2003 [1382]. The study involved 47 pregnant women with gestational age of 40 to 42 weeks, without regular uterine contractions, with Bishop score of 4 or less, and with no clinical or obstetric complications. The subjects were first selected purposively and then assigned into two control and experimental groups by random allocation. The experimental group received 60 cc castor oil while the control group received no intervention. Both groups were followed up for 24 hours for cervical ripening. For data collection, checklists were used for interviews, observation, examination, and fetal movements were recorded. Data analysis was done using chi-quare, Fisher, s test and independent t-test. At the outset, no significant difference was observed in the two groups Bishop score but a significam increase was obserued in the Bishop score of the expenimental group. A significamt increase was seen in the labor initiation ratio of the experimental group but no significant differnces were obserued between the two groups in their mean Apgar scores and delivery method. According to the finding, the application of 60 cc castor oil can assist cervical ripening

ABSTRACT

The aim of this research was accomplished by the objective of surving the effect of the group aerobic exercise program on the intensity of premestrual syndrome in the female students who were residents of Kerman Open-University domitory in 1381. This was a comparative clinical trial study on 58 students residing in the dormitory who were divided in two groups, experimental and control. Only the experimental group had 8 weeks of group Aerobic exercises. Data gathering instruments included were questionnaire, DASS [21] criterion, premenstrual assessment form, step test and borg scale. Premenstrual syndrome intensity was determined and compared before and after management by utilizing t-test. Others used were K2 and two way variance analysis. There was no significant difference between two groups regarding mean premenstural syndrome intensity before management [P=0.173]. The two groups were matched in age, BMI, areobic fitness systolic blood pressure. Findings showed after 8 weeks of management that mean P.M.S intensity was reduced in study group compared to previous management. Findings indicated that group aerobic exercise program decreased the intensity of premenstrual syndrome in subjects
