ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Two rare cases of endobronchial leiomyoma are presented. Both cases presented with suppuration and destruction of ipsilateral lung. The diagnosis was confirmed by biopsy and pneumonectomy performed. The world literature of previously reported twenty two cases is reviewed and salient features elaborated. The tendency to treat such cases with antitubercular drugs in a country were tuberculosis is endemic should be deplored.

ABSTRACT

The incidence of respiratory illness and tuberculin sensitivity of children below 15 years were studied among 245 families in village Chinimore and the observations were compared between two groups families keeping livestock and families non-keeping livestock. There were 135 (out of 446) children with respiratory illness with 30.2% incidence and 45 (out of 187 tuberculin tested) children were positive to Mantoux test. Families keeping livestock had statistically significantly more (P 25.18 of 0.1% level) tuberculin sensitive children.

ABSTRACT

The studies on growth pattern of a nonpathogenic Leishmania donovani, strain UR6, in different media showed that it can be regularly cultivated amd maintained in modified Ray's Medium (Agar) and three other liquid media, namely DME Medium, Medium 199 and RPMI-1640 which are manufactured in India. The well known N.N.N. Medium provided quantitatively poorer growth in comparison to these medium. Measurement of L. donovani cell concentration by optical density in a spectrophotometer has been worked out for expressing immunochemical observations on antigens in terms of cells per mililitre.
