ABSTRACT

Relationship between psychological factors and essential hypertension is a proven subject. This research was aimed to study the levels of Emotional Sensation Seeking in hypertensive patients and healthy Individual. In this study, 183 hypertensive patients and 195 healthy individuals completed the Emotional Seeking Scale-form V [SSS - V]. Then, based on the final scores, 100 hypertensive cases [50 men and 50 Women] referred to Tabriz Madani Heart Hospital, and 100 healthy Individuals were selected by available sampling [age range 22-6 1, mean 39]. Hypertensive men had higher scores than hypertensive women in thrill and adventure seeking, while healthy men had higher scores than healthy women in boredom susceptibility. Healthy women had higher scores than hypertensive women in thrill and adventure seeking. Identification of individuals with emotional seeking features helps to identify susceptible patients to essential hypertension for preventive procedures

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to provide evidence of validity and reliability of Revised version of the Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation Scale [TOCAS-R] among Iranian elementary students


Materials and Methods: This investigation is a psychometrics study. Three hundred 3[rd] and 4[th] grade students [ages 9 and 10] were selected through multi-stages sampling from Tabriz elementary schools. Samples completed TOCAS and Disruptive Behavior Rating Scale [DBRS]. Exploratory factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient and internal consistency were used to calculate the TOCAS factor structure [construct validity], convergent validity and reliability, respectively


Results: To obtain structure validity, principal component analysis with varimax rotation identified three factors, namely, inattention, aggression, and prosocial behavior. Cronbach alpha of the scale showed that this scale had reliable internal consistency. The TOCAS was specifically developed for assessing teachers' perceptions of children's classroom behaviors and adjustment to the school environment. Significant correlations were found between subscales of TOCAS and DBRS [P<0.05]


Conclusion: TOCAS may be useful for program evaluators and researchers who are interested in using a valid, reliable, and efficient method for assessing change in student behaviors

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to explore the confirmatory factor analysis results of the Persian adaptation of Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale [AMAS], proposed by Hopko, Mahadevan, Bare and Hunt. The validity and reliability assessments of the scale were performed on 298 college students chosen randomly from Tabriz University in Iran. The confirmatory factor analysis [CFA] was carried out to determine the factor structures of the Persian version of AMAS. As expected, the two-factor solution provided a better fit to the data than a single factor. Moreover, multi-group analyses showed that this two-factor structure was invariant across sex. Hence, AMAS provides an equally valid measure for use among college students. Brief AMAS demonstrates adequate reliability and validity. The AMAS scores can be used to compare symptoms of math anxiety between male and female students. The study both expands and adds support to the existing body of math anxiety literature

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, the most important social problem among adolescents is aggression. Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between dimensions of non-supportive parenting style, self-regulation and aggression using structural equation modeling method. In a descriptive correlational study, 192 high school students were selected by cluster multistage sampling method. All participants were asked to complete Parent Report Measure of Parenting, Self-Regulatory Inventory and Children's Social Behavior Scale-self report. Structural equation modeling [SEM] was performed by using Amos-16 to examine the research model. The results indicate there is no significant difference between males and females in terms of aggression [P>0.05]. In addition, the findings revealed overall model fit, with both dimensions of non-supportive parenting style [rejection and chaos] and self-regulation as significant predictors of aggression. Self-regulation partially mediated the effects of non-supportive parenting style on aggression among adolescent. Consistent with our conceptual model, the results reveal that there were direct and indirect [via self-regulation] relationships between non-supportive parenting style and aggressive behavior in adolescents

ABSTRACT

Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between father and mother attachment styles with social competence and social emotional adjustment in samples of non-local freshmen university students in Tabriz University, western part of Iran. In this descriptive, cross-sectional study, subjects were chosen among the freshmen students of Tabriz University. Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment [IPPA], Reynolds Adolescent Adjustment Inventory [RAAI] and Inventory Competence Questionnaire- Revised [ICQ-R] were filled out by 182 students [91 men and 91 women]. The collected data were analyzed using multiple-regression. The results show that there is a positive meaningful relationship between parents1 positive attachment styles [trust and communication] and socio-emotional adjustment [P<0/001]. However, there is a negative significant relationship between parents' negative attachment styles [emotional alienation] and social-emotional adjustment. Also, positive meaningful relationship between parents' positive attachments styles with students' social competence were found [P<0/001]. Based on results of this research, we found that among predictive variables, mother's emotional alienation and father's trust are best indicators for changes related to students' socio-emotional adjustment [P<0/001]. Furthermore, component of mother's trust only can be explained 11 percents of variation of social competence [P<0/001]. Parental attachment styles play an important role in different adjustment domains [social, behavioral and emotional] and social competence in university students
