ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To determine the association between phenotype and genotype of biofilm in Staphylococcus.METHODS All 156 clinical isolates of coagulase negative Staphylococcus(CNS) and 90 S.aureus(SAU) strains isolating from clinical specimens from Mar 2005 to Jul 2008,as well as 12 CNS strains from nasal swabs of healthy carriers from hospital staff, were collected.Congo red technique was performed to examine slime production. The presence of the intercellular adhesion genes(icaA and icaD) was determined by the polymerase chain reaction method. The phenotype and genotype of biofilm were analyzed.RESULTS Thirty-two out of 168 CNS isolates were biofilm producers(19.0%) while 32 out of 90 SAU isolates were producers(35.6%).All strains positive for icaA positive were also positive for icaD.The 16 strains(10 CNS isolates and 6 SAU isolates) were icaA and icaD positive but do not produced slime.CONCLUSIONS For SAU,the percentage of slime-production strains(35.6%) is higher than that found in CNS(19.0%).The characteristic of biofilm-negative variants having the ica loci might contribute to the dissemination. For clinical isolates of S.epidermidis, ica locus may not be a significant marker discriminating between invasive and contaminating isolates.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To investigate the changing pattern of clinical pathogens and the antibiotic resistance.METHODS The statistics of MRSA and MSSA isolated clinically in Hubei Province during from 2002 to 2005 was collected and analyzed.RESULTS The resistance rate of MRSA to various antibiotics was higher than that of MSSA.The resistance rate of MRSA to tetracyclines decreased yearly.CONCLUSIONS Multidrug resistance of MRSA to the most antibiotics is not improving.Vancomycin possesses the strongest activity for MRSA.However, the resistance of MSSA to the most antibiotics is improving.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To investigate the infection status and drug resistance of Mycoplasma strains isolated from genitourinary tract. METHODS The IST kit produced by Bio-Merieux was used to culture the Mycoplasma strains and to do drug susceptibility test. RESULTS The Mycoplasma infection ratio was 41.0%,with Ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu) 71.9%,Mycoplasma hominis(Mh) 2.3%,and mixed infection 25.8%,respectively.The drug susceptibility test showed that drug resistance ratios were as follows: to erythromycin 58.7%,ciprofloxacin 50.0%,ofloxacin 41.3%,pristinamycin 3.3%,josamycin 5.4% and doxycycline 7.6%. CONCLUSIONS Mycoplasma infection in genitourinary tract is mainly due to Uu infection. We should rationally choose and use antibiotics according to the drug susceptibility, and josamycin is very effective.
