ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of verbascoside(VB)on endothelial dysfunction in atherosclerotic(AS)rats by regulating high-mobility group protein B1(HMGB1)/receptor for advanced glycation endproducts(RAGE)/nuclear factor κB(NF-κB)signal pathway.Methods The rat model of AS was established by high fat feeding combined with vitamin D3 solution intraperitoneal injection.Rats were divided into the control group(n=10),the model group(n=12),the low(VB-L),medium(VB-M)and high dose(VB-H)VB groups(2,5 and 10 mg/kg,n=10),and the positive control group(simvastatin,5 mg/kg,n=10).The serum level of blood lipids was detected by automatic biochemical analyzer.Pathological changes of aorta were observed by HE staining.Serum levels of inflammatory factors and vascular endothelial cytokines were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The level of oxidative stress in rats was detected by micro-method kit.The expression of HMGB1/RAGE signal pathway protein in aorta was detected by Western blot assay.Results Compared with the control group,the intima of aorta in the model group was thickened,plaque appeared in blood vessels,accompanied by lipid deposition and inflammatory cell infiltration.Serum levels of total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),C-reactive protein(CRP),matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9),endothelin-1(ET-1),visfatin,intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)and malondialdehyde(MDA),and HMGB1,RAGE and phosphorylation levels of NF-κB in aorta were obviously increased.Serum levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),nitric oxide(NO),superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)were obviously decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the model group,pathological changes of rats were obviously improved in the VB-L,VB-M and VB-H groups and the simvastatin group.Serum levels of TC,TG,LDL-C,TNF-α,IL-1β,CRP,MMP-9,ET-1,visfatin,ICAM-1,MDA,and HMGB1,RAGE,phosphorylation levels of NF-κB in aorta were obviously decreased,and serum levels of HDL-C,NO,SOD and GSH-Px were obviously increased(P<0.05).Conclusion VB can down-regulate the expression of HMGB1/RAGE/NF-κB signal pathway protein,inhibit inflammation and oxidative stress in AS rats,and improve lipid metabolism and vascular endothelial function.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the status of job burnout and its main influential factors in seafarers and to provide a scientific basis for ensuring the physical and psychological health of seafarers and increasing their working performance.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 1027 seafarers, who underwent physical examination at Fujian International Travel Health Care Center from January to June, 2013, and left and entered China through the Fujian port, were selected. The status of job burnout was investigated using a job burnout scale. A total of 1027 questionnaires were sent out, and 989 valid ones (96.30%) were returned.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The scores of emotional exhaustion and cynicism were the highest in the youngest age group (<30 years), divorced or widowed group, or those with a monthly income per person over 10,000 yuan (P < 0.05). The score of reduced personal accomplishment was the highest in seafarers with a degree of junior high school or less or those with a monthly income per person of 3 000-6 000 yuan (P < 0.05). The highest scores of emotional exhaustion and cynicism were also seen in seafarers with the highest frequency of overtime working, high occupational stress, less than 6 hours' sleep per day, or poor sleep quality (P < 0.05). The highest score of reduced personal accomplishment was also seen in seafarers with the latest sail time lasting for more than six months, low occupational stress, or good sleep quality (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that poor sleep quality and occupational stress were the main risk factors for job burnout in seafarers, while physical exercise was a protective factor.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Job burnout among seafarers is influenced by many factors. Therefore, measures should be taken by relevant administrative departments and seafarers themselves to reduce the incidence of job burnout.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of animation in the course of medical statistics.Methods By convenience cluster sampling,271 undergraduates in two classes were recruited from the specialty of medical image,medical anesthesia and medical laboratory.The experimental group (n =139) and control group (n =132) were set up randomly.The animation design is only used in the teaching process among the experimental group,while traditional teaching method without animation was used in the control group.All participants were surveyed by questionnaire for the effectiveness after one week of the curriculum closure.SPSS 15.0 software was used to do data entry and statistical analysis and two-sample t-test was used to compare the differences in text scores between two groups.Evaluation was made on the courseware of animation in experimental group.P < 0.05 signifies that the differences have statistical significances.Results The test scores in experimental group (79.62 ± 9.34)were significantly higher than those in control group (77.10 ± 9.18; P < 0.05).More than 85 % of the experimental students think animation can stimulate their enthusiasm in studying medical statistics; and help them better understand the key points and main difficulties of the statistical knowledge.Conclusion It suggests that animation can enable students to study better the course of medical statistics.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the multi-resistance to antibiotics of clinical isolated klebsiella pneumoniae.Methods The resistance to antibiotics of clinical isolated klebsiella pneumoniae were monitored.The discconfirmatory test was used to detect extended-spectrum β-lactamases(ESBLs) and cefoxitin three-dimension was used to detect AmpC β-lactamases.Results Among the isolates there were 53 strains of ESBLs-producing bacteria (49.5% ), 30 strains of AmpC-producing bacteria(28.0%), 24 strains of ESBLs + AmpC-producing bacteria (22.46%).They were high resistance to aminoglycosides,quinolones and cephalosporins.Conclusion The multi-resistance to antibiotics of clinical isolated klebsiella pneumoniae were widespread.It is important to control nosocomial infection to strengthen the detection of the epidemiology of ESBLs and AmpC β-lactamases in clinical isolates.
