ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the awareness of malaria-related knowledge, the use of mosquito nets and their influencing factors among residents in Banlao Township, Cangyuan County, Yunnan Province.. Methods In August 2020, 19 settlement sites in Banlao Township, Cangyuan County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province were selected as study areas, and permanent residents at ages of 10 years and older were enrolled for a questionnaire survey, including residents’ demographics, family economic status, malaria control knowledge and use of mosquito nets. In addition, the factors affecting the use of mosquito nets in the night prior to the survey were identified using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 320 questionnaires were allocated, and all were recovered (a 100% recovery rate). There were 316 valid questionnaires, with an effective recovery rate of 98.75%. The 316 respondents included 152 men and 164 women and 250 Chinese respondents and 66 foreign respondents. The awareness of clinical syndromes of malaria was significantly higher among Chinese residents (71.60%) than among foreign residents (50.00%) (χ2 = 11.03, P < 0.01), and the proportions of Chinese and foreign residents sleeping under mosquito nets were 46.00% and 69.70% on the night prior to the survey, respectively (χ2 = 11.73, P < 0.01). Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified ethnicity group and type of residence as factors affecting the use of mosquito nets in the night prior to the survey. Conclusions The awareness of malaria control knowledge, the coverage and the use of mosquito nets were low among residents in Banlao Township, Cangyuan County, Yunnan Province. Targeted health education is recommended to improve the awareness of malaria control knowledge and self-protection ability. In addition, improving the allocation of long-lasting mosquito nets and health education pertaining to their uses and increasing the proportion of using mosquito nets correctly is needed to prevent re-establishment of imported malaria.

ABSTRACT

Objective To improve the success rate of insertion of gastric lavage canal in patientswith tracheal intubation. Methods 70 patients with organophosphoms pesticide intoxication who neededgastric lavage after tracheal intubation were randomized into the test group and the control group, 35 easesin each. In test group, lavage canal was inserted through bite block orally and the bedside was raised till 70to 80 in angle. While in the control group, lavage canal was inserted directly through mouth with the posi-tion of hypsokinesis. The success rate of intubation was compared between the two groups. Results One-time success rate was 94.2% in the test group, which was statistically different from that of the control group(37.1%), P < 0.01. The complication of intubation in the test group was also lower than that of the controlgroup, which had statistical difference. Conclusions Through improvement of position to raise the bedsidetill 70 to 80 in angle, the insertion of gastric lavage canal through bite block orally was much better than thenormal one and it is worth applying.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of regional perfusion of chemotherapeutic drug in rectal cancer patients who had undergone total mesorectum excision(TME).Methods The therapeutic effects were retrospectively analyzed of 178 rectal carcinoma patients, who were admitted in the hospital from 1999 to 2006,had undergone TME,and then received chemotherapy through various routes.Among them,a catheter was placed in the left internal iliac vein, and chemotherapeutic drug was administered through it postoperatively in 90 patients. The other 88 cases served as control, and they received systemic intra-venous chemotherapy after TME.No significant difference on clinical parameters was evident between the two groups during the course of treatment. The 1,3 and 5 year local recurrence rates, metastasis rates and survival rates of the two groups were compared. Results The 1,3 and 5 year local recurrence rates in the study group were 0,2.5%(2/79) and 3.9%(3/77),respectively,while they were 1.1%(1/88),3.9%(3/77) and 8.1%(6/74),respectively in control group. There was a significant difference in the local recurrence rate between two groups(P

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the role of regional chemotherapy via internal iliac artery pump, systemic chemotherapy and total mesorectum excision(TME) in the treatment of rectal cancer. Methods A total of 193 patients with rectal carcinoma divided into 2 groups: The observation group, included 98 cases who underwent TME,regional chemotherapy through internal iliac artery pump and systemic chemotherapy. The other 95 cases,as control group, were treated with systemic chemotherapy after TME.The local recurrence rate, metastasis rate and survival rate were compared between the two groups. Results The local recurrence rate and metastasis rate of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group. The local recurrence rate at 1-,3-and 5-year was significantly lower in the observation group[0,2.5%(2/81) and 3.8%(3/79) respectivvely]than that in the control group [1.1%(1/95),11.4%(9/79) and 16.2%(11/68) respectively](P
