ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the risk factors of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in premature infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and to establish a prediction model for early PH. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. Data of 777 BPD preterm infants with the gestational age of <32 weeks were collected from 7 collaborative units of the Su Xinyun Neonatal Perinatal Collaboration Network platform in Jiangsu Province from January 2019 to December 2022. The subjects were randomly divided into a training cohort and a validation cohort at a ratio of 8∶2 by computer, and non-parametric test or χ2 test was used to examine the differences between the two retrospective cohorts. Univariate Logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used in the training cohort to screen the risk factors affecting the PH associated with BPD. A nomogram model was constructed based on the severity of BPD and its risk factors, which was internally validated by the Bootstrap method. Finally, the differential, calibration and clinical applicability of the prediction model were evaluated using the training and verification queues. Results: A total of 130 among the 777 preterm infants with BPD had PH, with an incidence of 16.7%, and the gestational age was 28.7 (27.7, 30.0) weeks, including 454 males (58.4%) and 323 females (41.6%). There were 622 preterm infants in the training cohort, including 105 preterm infants in the PH group. A total of 155 patients were enrolled in the verification cohort, including 25 patients in the PH group. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis revealed that low 5 min Apgar score (OR=0.87, 95%CI 0.76-0.99), cesarean section (OR=1.97, 95%CI 1.13-3.43), small for gestational age (OR=9.30, 95%CI 4.30-20.13), hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA) (OR=4.49, 95%CI 2.58-7.80), late-onset sepsis (LOS) (OR=3.52, 95%CI 1.94-6.38), and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) (OR=8.67, 95%CI 3.98-18.91) were all independent risk factors for PH (all P<0.05). The independent risk factors and the severity of BPD were combined to construct a nomogram map model. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of the nomogram model in the training cohort and the validation cohort were 0.83 (95%CI 0.79-0.88) and 0.87 (95%CI 0.79-0.95), respectively, and the calibration curve was close to the ideal diagonal. Conclusions: Risk of PH with BPD increases in preterm infants with low 5 minute Apgar score, cesarean section, small for gestational age, hamodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus, late-onset sepsis, and ventilator-associated pneumonia. This nomogram model serves as a useful tool for predicting the risk of PH with BPD in premature infants, which may facilitate individualized early intervention.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effect of Jianpi Bufei prescription (JPBFP) on airway inflammation, airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) signaling pathway activity in ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized and challenged juvenile asthma rats. Method:Seventy-five male SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group (n=15) and an experimental group (n=60). The rats in the experimental group were sensitized by aluminum hydroxide gel containing 0.2% OVA and stimulated by aerosol inhalation of normal saline containing 1% OVA to induce an asthma model, followed by assignment into the following groups: a model group (n=15), a JPBFP group (n=15, 8.37 g·kg-1·d-1), an aminophylline group (n=15, 40 mg·kg-1·d-1), and a dexamethasone group (n=15, 0.1 mg·kg-1·d-1). AHR was detected by the pulmonary function analyzer, changes in inflammatory cells by white blood cell (WBC) count and differential blood count in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and pathological changes of lung tissues by hematoxylin-eosin (HE), Masson, and periodic acid-schiff (PAS) staining. The interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-13, interferon (IFN)-γ, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α levels in serum and the cAMP level in plasma were tested by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Protein kinase A (PKA) expression in lung tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. The cAMP-response element-binding protein (CREB) mRNA and protein expression in lung tissues was detected by the real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) and Western blot. Result:Compared with the blank group, the model group showed increased lung resistance, decreased pulmonary compliance (P<0.05), elevated WBC count and proportion of eosinophils in BALF (P<0.05), up-regulated levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and TNF-α in peripheral blood, declining IFN-γ level (P<0.01), severe pathological changes of lung tissues, dwindled cAMP, and down-regulated PKA and CREB expression (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, JPBFP inhibited AHR, reduced WBC count and proportion of eosinophils in BALF and lung resistance (P<0.05), improved pathological changes of lung tissues, increased pulmonary compliance, and up-regulated cAMP in serum and PKA and CREB expression in lung tissues (P<0.01). Conclusion:JPBFP can improve AHR, inhibit airway inflammation, and alleviate lung injury in asthma rats. Its mechanism may be related to the up-regulation of the activity of the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Macrophages are highly plastic and heterogeneous. In different types of inflammatory diseases, or at different stages of the same disease, macrophages can undergo phenotypic transformation to elicit different functions. Hence, exploring new regulatory mechanism of macrophage polarization and seeking for new key mediators will lay the foundation for the diagnosis and treatment of macrophage-related diseases, such as inflammatory diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. Interferon regulatory factors (IRFs) have been reported to play an important role in the maturation and differentiation of macrophages. In this review, we will describe the structure and modulation pattern of IRFs, and then further summarize the molecular mechanism and signal regulation network of IRFs in pathological processes of related diseases through controlling macrophage polarization. Our review will explore the new therapeutic strategy and potential drug targets for related diseases.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Huachansu in the treatment of cancer-related pain, four Chinese databases( CNKI,VIP,Wan Fang,Sino Med) and three English databases( Cochrane Library,Medline,PubMed) were systematically and comprehensively retrieved since the establishment of each database to October 2018. Randomized controlled trials( RCTs) for the treatment of cancer-related pain with Huachansu were screened out according to pre-established inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Rev Man5. 3 software was used for Meta-analysis. A total of 241 articles were retrieved, and finally 10 studies were included. The total sample size was 1 293,including 648 in the experimental group and 645 in the control group. The overall quality of the included studies was generally low. The results of Meta-analysis showed that Huachansu combined with Western medicine acesodynes was superior to the single use of Western medicine acesodynes in the treatment of short-term pain relief, improvement of quality of life and reduction of constipation, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, anorexia and other adverse reactions. And it also has the advantage of a shorter onset time and longer duration time of analgesia, but cannot reduce the incidence of dysuria. Based on the findings,Huachansu had a certain effect in the treatment of cancer-related pain, and a significant positive effect on the improvement of quality of life and the reduction of adverse reactions. No serious adverse reactions occurred. However, due to the small number of studies included, the low quality of the included studies, published biases and other restrictions, the evidence in this study has a low quality, and the conclusion shall be adopted with caution. The effectiveness and safety of Huachansu in the treatment of cancer-related pain remained to be further confirmed in the future with a well-designed,rigorous,and standardized report, with a large sample size, multiple centers, and sufficient follow-up time for randomized controlled trials.

ABSTRACT

Lilii Bulbus, which comes from many medicinal plants,is a frequently-used traditional Chinese medicine, the records in previous herbal literatures of it's origin and quality were inconstant. To trace back it's sources, we conducted a systematical study on it's origin and quality by textual research and investigation in this paper,The result showed that the origins of Lilii Bulbus are mainly source from white-flowers, red-yellow-flowers and red-flowers of Lilium, L. brownii var. viridulum, which were believed authentic or good quality in all previous herbal literatures, and L. pumilum and L. concolor which belong to white-flowers,and L. lancifolium which belong to red-yellow-flowers were believed low-quality and unfit for medicinal uses, or they were listed below and often have different effect with L. brownii var. viridulum. Among them, only L. concolor does not belong to Lilii Bulbus according to Chinese Pharmacopeia (2015 edition), The mainstream varieties of Lilii Bulbus became L. lancifolium now according to our practical investigation, which were very different from previous herbal literatures. Although chemical and pharmacological studies provided a reference for L. lancifolium,we should respect the actual records of the previous herbal literatures, the research of material foundation of efficacy should be more sufficient, and provide science evidence for clinical application of different species of Lilii Bulbus.

ABSTRACT

To understand Lophatherum gracile plant community's structural characteristics, a survey of community structure and species diversity was conducted through quadrat sampling in Yongchuan district of Chongqing. The results showed that there were 386 species vascular plants, belonging to 117 families and 229 genera. Based on habitat, community structure and species composition, L. gracile were found in three community types: Pinus massoniana community, banboo community, shurb community. Vertical structure was composed of three layers, including tree layer, shrub layer and herb layer. Species in shrub layer was the richness. P. massoniana is the only dominant species of the community, it can not regenerate naturally, the shrub layer has a greater effect on the community of L. gracile in the future. In addition, the banboo community and shurb community is not stable because of human's activity. Therefore, the community characters of L. gracile should be taken care of conservation when the resources are utilized.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVES</b>To investigate the effect of magnetron sputtered niobium nitride (NbN) on the bonding strength of commercially pure cast titanium (Ti) and low-fusing porcelain (Ti/Vita titankeramik system).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty Ti specimens were randomly divided into four groups, group T1, T2, T3 and T4. All specimens of group T1 and T2 were first treated with 120 microm blasted Al2O3 particles, and then only specimens of group T2 were treated with magnetron sputtered NbN film. All specimens of group T3 and T4 were first treated with magnetron sputtered NbN film and then only specimens of group T4 were treated with 120 microm blasted Al2O3 particles. The composition of the deposits were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). A universal testing machine was used to perform the three-point bending test to evaluate the bonding strength of Ti and porcelain. The microstructure of NbN, the interface of Ti-porcelain and the fractured Ti surface were observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy depressive spectrum (EDS), and the results were compared.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The XRD results showed that the NbN deposits were cubic crystalline phases. The bonding strength of Ti and porcelain in T1 to T4 group were (27.2+/-0.8), (43.1+/-0.6), (31.4+/-1.0) and (44.9+/-0.6) MPa. These results were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and differences between groups were compared using least significant difference test. Significant inter-group differences were found among all groups (P<0.05). The results of SEM showed that with treatment of Al2O3 or NbN, alone, pre-cracks were found in the interface of Ti-porcelain, while samples treated with both Al2O3 and NbN had better bond. EDS of Ti-porcelain interface showed oxidation occurred in T1, T2 and T3, but was well controlled in T4.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Magnetron sputtered NbN can prevent Ti from being oxidized, and can improve the bonding strength of Ti/Vita titankeramik system. Al2O3 blast can also improve the bonding strength of Ti/Vita titankeramik system.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To measure the utility value of different skeletal malocclusion for patients receiving orthodontic treatment.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Utility value of different skeletal malocclusion for patients was measured by rating scale and time trade-off.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The youth group had higher utility values than adult group for skeletal malocclusion Class II (protruding facial type) with median mandibular angle. The utility value of skeletal malocclusion Class III (concave facial type) with low mandibular angle was the lowest, and the utility value of skeletal malocclusion Class II (protruding facial type) with median mandibular angle was the highest. There was no difference in the utility values by rating scale and by time trade-off.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>For some skeletal malocclusion, the youth had different utility values with the adult.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of exposure to decabrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE-209) on learning and memory of BALB/c mice.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eighteen female BALB/c mice were randomized divided into 3 groups and gavaged with peanut oil in the control groups and 300, 1500 mg x kg(-1)xd(-1) PBDE-209 in peanut oil daily in two exposed groups respectively for 4 weeks. The learning and memory ability of mice were tested by the Morris water maze and the shuttling box respectively. The body weight and organs index were measured and the acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activity in brain were determined. The liver histopathological examination was performed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The heart index in high dose PBDE-209 group was higher than that of the low dose PBDE-209 group (P < 0.05). The results of Morris water maze showed that escape latency period was significantly shorter than the control group (F = 3.134, P < 0.05). The swimming time in the second quadrant of low dose PBDE-209 group was (15.78 +/- 10.92) s, significantly shorter compared with the swimming time in the second quadrant of the control group's [(28.80 +/- 8.67) s] (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the times of active avoidance in the shuttling between three groups (F = 3.423, P = 0.06). There were no significant differences in acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activity in brain of PBDE-209 groups compared with the control group (P > 0.05). Histologically liver damages in structure such as adipose degeneration and swelling were observed in PBDE groups.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Exposure to PBDE-209 slightly impairs the space learning and memory ability of BALB/c mice, and it has some hepatotoxicity.</p>
