ABSTRACT

Objective The aim of this study was to demonstrate the immunogenicity and safety of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (acellular, component) , poliomyelitis (inactivated) vaccine (adsorbed) and Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine (DTaP-IPV//PRP-T) combined vaccine compared with commercially available DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), tetanus conjugate and IPV monovalent vaccine. Methods Subjects were randomly divided into three groups, Group A and Group B were DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine (PENTAXIMTM) vaccinated at 2,3,4 months of age or 3,4, 5 months of age respectively; Group C was commercially available DTaP. Hib tetanus conjugate (Act-HIBTM) and IPV (IMOVAX PolioTM) vaccines vaccinated at 3,4, 5 months of age. All groups received booster dose at 18 to 20 months of age, with antibody titers tested. Non-inferiority analysis was demonstrated in terms of seroprotection / seroconversion rates between Group A, Group B respectively and Group C. Safety information was collected after each vaccination to assess the safety of investigational vaccines. Results The non-inferiority of DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine vaccinated at 2,3,4 or 3,4, 5 months of age versus DTaP, Hib tetanus conjugate and IPV vaccine was demonstrated for all vaccine antigens in both primary and booster phases in terms of seroprotection/seroconversion rates. DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine was well tolerated. The rate of solicited/unsoliciated severe adverse reactions was very low and similar to the control vaccines. Conclusion DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine was highly immunogenic with good safety profile in Chinese infants, which was comparable to the commercially available control vaccines.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVESTo understand the relation between nitric oxide (NO) level in seminal plasma and male fertility.

METHODSThe levels of NO in seminal plasma of 174 fertile males and 217 abnormospermia patients were measured by using the reductase of nitric acid, Greiss reagent and spectrophotometry.

RESULTS1. NO was found in all 174 samples (20-49 years) of fertile males which was (27.78 +/- 5.81) mumol/L. The NO level in seminal plasma in fertile males was became higher after age 40, and there was no significant difference between 20-29-year-old [(26.25 +/- 5.52) mumol/L] and 30-39-year-old[(28.11 +/- 5.87) mumol/L]. But the group of 40-49-year-old[(30.17 +/- 6.14) mumol/L] had a higher level of NO in seminal plasma than 20-29-year-old (P < 0.05). 2. The seminal plasma samples from nine types of abnormospermia were measured, which all had a higher level of NO than fertile males. In abnormospermia, the level of NO in seminal plasma of the patients with single abnormality increased slightly, two abnormality obviously increased, and the highest level of NO in seminal plasma appeared in three abnormality.

CONCLUSIONSThis results confirmed that proper level of NO in seminal plasma may regulate the spermatogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the pathologic and clinical features of malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney(MRTK),and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods The clinical and pathologic data of 5 patients(4 men and 1 woman;mean age,50 years;age range,21-67 years)with MRTK(3 tumors on the left and 2 on the right)were retrospectively analyzed in combination with review of the relevant literature.Of the 5 cases,I was incidentally diagnosed with renal tumor during physical examina- tion;and 3 had gross hematuria, low back pain and discomfort, and abdominal masses. Results Radical nephrectomy was performed in all 5 cases. The tumors averaged 6.5cm in diameter.By NWTS staging,4 ca- ses had stageⅡtumors and 1 case had stageⅢtumor.Pathological features were as follows.Rhabdoid cells were characterized by eccentric nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and abundant cytoplasm containing eosinophilic inclusions that were strongly positive for vimentin and epithelial membrane antigen(EMA).Electron micros- copy showed intermediate filaments and round, irregular fibroid or whorl-like corpuscles in the cytoplasm. Follow-up was available in 4 patients(mean,6.8 months;range,3-24 months).Of them,2 died of metasta- sis or complications 12 months after operation;and 2 were alive without recurrence and metastasis for 6 months. Conclusions MRTK is a rare and morphologically distinctive neoplasm with specific findings of pathological features. The tumor has a poorer prognosis, but comparatively it is better in adults than in adoles- cents.
