ABSTRACT
Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) refers to changes in mental activity, personality, social activities and cognitive abilities of patients after anesthesia or surgery.POCD is mainly manifested as impairment of memory, attention, and language comprehension as well as the decline of social ability.POCD has a high incidence, especially among the elderly. Many clinical trails and animal experiments have been conducted on POCD, and studies on the risk factors and pathogenesis of POCD can provide clues to reduce the occurrence of POCD.Adequate cerebral oxygen supply is essential for the normal function of brain, and the insufficient oxygen supply to the brain caused by various factors may lead to the occurrence of POCD.This paper reviews the risk factors for POCD caused by insufficient cerebral oxygen supply.
