ABSTRACT
A Integração Sensorial é a capacidade do sistema nervoso central (SNC) de organizar os estímulos sensoriais e transformar as sensações em percepção para o indivíduo interagir com o ambiente. Depois de integradas as informações, os impulsos são encaminhados para os centros apropriados do SNC (sistemas visual, auditivo, tátil, gustativo e vestibular) que produzem comandos necessários para as atividades coordenadas. Reconhecendo a importância da Integração Sensorial, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão da literatura para verificar como esse método é utilizado na prática da terapia ocupacional com crianças com alterações neurológicas. Foram selecionados apenas, artigos científicos que abordaram Integração Sensorial, neurologia infantil e terapia ocupacional entre os anos de 1999 e 2008. No total foram encontrados 28 artigos, dos quais sete foram selecionados. Atualmente, existem poucos estudos que correlacionam a terapia ocupacional à Integração Sensorial e à neurologia infantil, principalmente na literatura nacional. Discute-se a importância do uso de avaliações padronizadas de Integração Sensorial para o acompanhamento e intervenção terapêutico-ocupacional em crianças com transtorno na Integração Sensorial, especialmente aquelas com déficits neurológicos.
Sensory Integration is the capacity of the central nervous system to organize its sensorial impulses and transform sensations into perceptions for an individual to interact with the environment. After having the information put together, those impulses are directed to the proper areas of the central nervous system and produce the commands needed for the coordinated activities. Considering the importance of the Sensory Integration, this review verified how the Sensory Integration Method is used in the Occupational Therapy practice with neurologically handicapped children. Only scientific articles on sensorial integration, children neurologic development and occupational therapy publhished between 1999 and 2008 were used. Altogether 28 articles were found and only seven were actually used. Currently, there are only few studies regarding occupational therapy, sensory integration and children neurologic development, especially in our countrys literature. The importance of standardized evaluation of sensory integration for the therapeutic treatment and the follow-up routine on children with sensorial distress, especially those with neurologic deficits, is discussed.
