ABSTRACT

Successful management of parturition induction is a challenging task in canine. This study made to assess the efficacy of antiprogestagen mifepristone and prostaglandin misoprostol in induction of parturition in bitches. Total of 11 pregnant bitches with gestational age of more than 62 days confirmed by ultrasound scanning and not showing any sings of initiation of parturition were selected. Induction of parturition was initiated by mifepristone (3 mg/ kg b wt PO) twice a day or a combination of mifepristone (3 mg/kg b wt PO) and misoprostol (200 ?g for < 20 kg, 400 ?g for > 20 kg b wt, i/vg) 12 h after second dose of mifepristone. The combination of both drugs mifepristone and misoprostol was more effective for parturition induction.

ABSTRACT

Background: Pterional approach is most accepted and most common approach for clipping of intracranial anterior circulationaneurysms. This approach imparts good exposure of anterior and middle skull base. However the Pterional approach haspotential adverse effects, such as long operative time, excessive blood loss, long hospital stay, and temporal muscle atrophy.Supraorbital keyhole via eyebrow incision is a minimal invasive approach for anterior circulation aneurysm surgery. This approachhas advantages of less operative time, less blood loss, less brain retraction, short hospital stay and no temporal muscle atrophy. Objective: Objective of this study to emphasize the advantages and limitations of supra orbital key hole approach for anteriorcirculation aneurysm surgery based on our institutional experience.Material and Methods: Between September 2017 and February 2020, total 16 patients with anterior circulation aneurysmswere operated by suprorbital keyhole craniotomy approach. All patients included were ≥18 years of age with Subarachnoidhemorrhage grade 1, grade 2, grade 3 on modified fischer scale. Intra operative and postoperative parameter noted andanalyzed over a period of 3 months follow up.Results: There were good cosmetic results with less approach related complications. We achieved good recovery (4/5) onGlasgow outcome scale score 4 or 5 were achieved in 87.5% of the patients in follow period of 3 months. Conclusion: Supra orbital key hole approach is not a standard approach for all kind of anterior circulation aneurysms, it can beapplied for small sized aneurysms with SAH grade up to 3 on modified fischer scale. An thorough pre-op work up, experience, skilled hand are prerequisites for supra orbital keyhole approach in aneurysm surgery. Selection of this approach should bebased on aneurysms morphology, size of aneurysm, grade of SAH, brain edema, and the surgeon’s experience.

ABSTRACT

Background: Raised blood pressure (hypertension) caused an estimated 9.4 million deaths in 2010. 22% of adults aged 18 years and over around the world had raised blood pressure in 2014 In India prevalence of Hypertension is 22.4% (13.5% in Haryana, district Faridabad) according to National Family Health Survey 2015-2016. A number of studies have estimated the prevalence of hypertension in general population in our country but data regarding the prevalence of hypertension in industrial workers has not been documented in the recent past. The objectives of the study were to calculate the prevalence of hypertension and its associated risk factors in employee’s state insurance (ESI) beneficiaries in four districts in Haryana. Methods: Cross-sectional study was done on 365 ESI beneficiaries working in industries in four districts of Haryana. Predesigned structured self-administered questionnaire was used for interview. Blood pressure measurement and all the anthropometric measurements were done by the following standardized technique. Results: The overall prevalence of hypertension was found to be 17.26%. The severity of hypertension increased significantly with age (p=0.006). Overweight and obese participants had higher proportion of hypertensive, however, history of shift duty, drug abuse, tobacco and alcohol intake did not show a significant trend of severity of HTN.Conclusions: From the results of the present study, it can be concluded that there are a large number of undiagnosed cases of hypertension amongst employee’s state insurance corporation (ESIC) beneficiaries. It is, therefore recommended that health check-up and awareness camps should be conducted on regular basis for early detection and timely treatment of hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Ameloblastic carcinoma is an uncommon malignant odontogenic tumor of jaws and is a highly aggressive tumor with rapid growth and also a high potential for distant metastasis. Th e most common site of occurrence is posterior mandible. Clinically, it is aggressive and has potential for local destruction. Th e majority of the cases arise de novo, while few cases arise from a pre-existing ameloblastoma. Th e radiological feature of the ameloblastic carcinoma is usually similar to that of ameloblastoma except for the presence of focal radiopacity, which apparently refl ects dystrophic calcifi cation. Herein, we report a case of ameloblastic carcinoma in the left mandible of a 60-year-old female patient.

ABSTRACT

Odontogenic keratocyst was the first illustrated by Phillipsen in 1956 and is unique as it is aggressive locally, and rate of recurrence is high along with histological appearance which is very characteristic. It is a benign neoplasm of jaw with the diverse origin and its occurrence in maxilla is uncommon. We present a case of 30-year-old male with aggressive keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT) in the right maxillary molar region. On radiological examination, radiolucent area, mimicking radicular cyst, was found in relation with maxillary first molar. A final diagnosis of KCOT was confirmed after histopathological findings. The clinical, radiological, and histopathological features of this tumor along with surgical management have been discussed.

ABSTRACT

Residual solvents in pharmaceutical samples are monitored using gas chromatography with head space. Based on good manufacturing practices, measuring residual solvents is mandatory for the release testing of all active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). The analysis of residual organic solvents (methanol, acetone, cyclohexane, dichloromethane, toluene) in Omeprazole, an active pharmaceutical ingredient was investigated. Omeprazole is a potent reversible inhibitor of the gastric proton pump H+/K+-ATPase. The Head space gas chromatography (HSGC) method described in this investigation utilized a SPB TM-624, Supelco, 30 m long x 0.25 mm internal diameter, 1.4µm-thick column. Since Omeprazole is a thermally labile compound, the selection of the proper injector temperature is critical to the success of the analysis. The injector temperature was set at 170ºC to prevent degradation. The initial oven temperature was set at 40ºC for 12 min and programmed at a rate of 10ºC min-1 to a final temperature of 220ºC for 5 min. Nitrogen was used as a carrier gas. The sample solvent selected was N,N-dimethylacetamide. The method was validated to be specific, linear, precise, sensitive, rugged and showed excellent recovery.

ABSTRACT

Pesticides are chemicals used for pest control in the agricultural fields. They finally reach the surrounding water bodies through surface runoff affecting the aquatic fauna. Dimethoate is frequently used organophosphate pesticide due to its high effectiveness and rapid breakdown into environmentally safe products. A 96 hr static acute toxicity test was carried out to determine the LC50 value of dimethoate, on the freshwater airbreathing catfish Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch). The fish were exposed to 7 different concentrations of dimethoate (2.50, 2.75, 3.00, 3.25, 3.50, 3.75 and 4.00 mg l-1) for toxicity bioassay. Control (0.00 mg l-1) was also carried out. The data were subjected to Finney’s Probit analysis and processed with Trimmed Spearman-Karber statistical software. The LC50 values for dimethoate for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hr were 3.38, 3.23, 3.08 and 2.98 mg l-1, respectively. At higher concentration of dimethoate (3.25 mg l-1 and above) the fish showed uncoordinated behaviour such as erratic and jerky swimming, attempt to jump out of water, frequent surfacing and gulping of air, decrease in opercular movement and copious secretion of mucus all over the body.

ABSTRACT

Personal Values are the reflection of the highest principle of mind and thought, and can even be said to be a part of spiritual domain of the individual. They play a very important role in the motivation of adolescents to varied behaviours. This study was done on 90 students to evaluate their religious, social, democratic, aesthetic, economic, knowledge, hedonistic, power, family prestige and health values. The results did not show any differences between male and female students on any of these values. This shows that no gender difference exists in ethical beliefs and both male and female use almost similar processes for evaluation of ethical situations.
