ABSTRACT

Background: A significant number of patients attending surgical or medical out doors and clinics of prominent doctors, we find them having thick record files visiting from one doctor to another. Majority of such patients diagnosis remain “chronic pain abdomen” in spite of all possible investigations and all sort of recent and ancient medicines. Aim of this study is to analyze the diagnosis and therapeutic value of exploratory laparotomy. Methods: A prospective non randomized study was done on 40 patients who follows our strict criteria and in spite of all relevant investigations’ diagnosis remain chronic nonspecific pain abdomen (CNSPA). Exploratory laparotomy was done and findings were recorded and analyzed to see its diagnostic and therapeutic value. Results: Patients of appendicular (maximum 27.5%) and tubercular disease present within one year of first appearance of pain whereas those having bands and adhesions after two years. Overall exploratory laparotomy was diagnostic and therapeutic in 80% patients. Conclusions: In selected patients of CNSPA exploratory laparotomy is therapeutic in 87.5% and diagnostic in 92.5% patients.

ABSTRACT

Background: Collagen has unique property of adhere to the ulcer floor thus reduces plasma oozing, bacterial colonization, pain and ulcer size which boost the process of granulation and epithelialization thus healing. Methods: In this prospective, non-randomized study 100 patients of different age and sex having chronic ulcer situated on various parts of the body were taken. Nano collagen particles preparation “collofibre” of TNC health care was used. Results: Most of the patients fall in their most productive life (3rd and 4th decade), restricted mobility due to pain. Thus anaemia, diabetes, old age, debility, bed ridden situations, other associated injuries and certain medical conditions contribute to delay in ulcer healing and hospital stay. Bacterial contamination, presence of necrotic tissue and slough delay the healing process. 73% of patients complain of itching and burning sensation after application otherwise no major side effect detected. Conclusions: Use of nano collagen particles dressing accelerate the healing process in chronic ulcers.

ABSTRACT

Adiponectin (ADIPOQ) gene regulates the glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity, fatty acid oxidation, immunity and reproduction. In the present investigation, PCR-RFLP method was conducted to identify the genetic polymorphism in intron 2 region of adiponectin (ADIPOQ) gene in Indian Sahiwal cattle. PCR of intron 2 of ADIPOQ gene fragment produced amplicon of 961 bp which was subsequently digested with RsaI restriction enzyme. The RsaI/PCR-RFLP assay revealed monomorphic pattern only, TT genotype (wild type homozygote) in Sahiwal cattle population which was confirmed by sequencing. The obtained sequences of ADIPOQ after aligning revealed absence of RsaI recognition site GTAC and consequently, the association study with economic traits could not be performed

ABSTRACT

Secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) is popularly known as osteopontin (OPN), which plays an important role in initiation and maintenance of pregnancy, as well as in the development of the fetus and milk production. In the present study, investigation of G>T polymorphism in exon 7 region of SPP1 gene was undertaken in 147 Sahiwal and Hariana cattle maintained at Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), DUVASU, Mathura using HpyCH4IV/PCR-RFLP assay. Amplification of SPP1 exon 7 region revealed 204 bp product and HpyCH4IV restriction digestion screening showed monomorphic pattern. Only one type of genotype, namely, TT (204 bp) was observed in population. The frequency of TT genotypes was 100% in all screened samples with T allele (1.0). The results revealed that SPP1 T allele seems to be fixed in screened cattle population. Consequently, we could not perform the association study of this substitution with milk production traits
