ABSTRACT
Define-se mordida aberta anterior como uma falta de contato vertical entre os dentes anteriores superiores e inferiores. Com etiologia multifatorial, incluem-se os hábitos bucais deletérios, a hipertrofia das tonsilas, a respiração predominantemente bucal, as alterações de forma e função da língua, dentre outros. A interceptação dessa má oclusão em idade precoce e com a atuação multidisciplinar mostra-se importante. O propósito desse trabalho é revisar algumas considerações a respeito da etiologia da mordida aberta anterior, tratamento e recidiva, bem como apresentar um relato clínico.
The anterior open bite could be defined as a lack of vertical contact between the maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. The etiology is multifactorial, it could be developed as a result of oral habits, hypertrophic tonsils, mouth breathing, tongue thrust, and others. To intercept this malocclusion at an early age and the multidisciplinar therapy is very important. The purpose of this paper is to review some considerations about etiology, treatment and relapse of the anterior open bite, as well as to present a case report.
