ABSTRACT

Teaching  ethics  to  first  year  Medical  Students  on  the  topic  of  “How  is  the  Seniority  system  important  to  doctors,”  has  the  objectives  of  giving  the  students  the  ability  to  interact  with  doctors,  teachers  and  fellow  students  politely.  The  teaching  method  includes  introducing  the  importance  of  the  seniority  system  by  using  slides,  lectures  about  outstanding  doctors,  and  giving  examples  of  how  to  show  respect.  The  total  number  of  students  is  98,  43  men  and 55  women.  However,  only  89  students  were involved in  this  study.  Evaluation  by  questionnaire  showed  that1. Teaching  methods.  The  majority  of  students  (96.63  percent)  understood  and  could  practice  what  they  learned  by giving  the  explanation  that  the  teaching  methods  were  good ;  the  objectives  were  clearly  presented;  and there  were  demonstrations  that  made  them  understand.  The  students  realized  the  importance  of  the  seniority  system,  and  agreed  that  they  should  put  what  they  learncd  into  proctice. This  is  because  it  has  personal  benefits  and make  a  good  impression  on  those  who  contact  the  doctors.  2. Use  of  Knowledge  in  practice.  One – hundred  percent  of  the  students  said  they  would  use the  knowledge  they  gained  from  the  course  reasoning  that  it  is  good  and  it  has  many  benefits.  The  seniority  system  is  important  for  medical  occupations,  both  for  medical  education  and  medical  practice.  It  also  helps  preserve  positive  thing  about  the  culture  and  causes good  relationships  with  colleages.  3. Evaluation  of  use  of  Seniority  System  in  practice  and  in  ethical  evaluation  whether  the  students  will  qualify  for  graduaion.  Most  of  the  students (93.26 percent)  say  that  there  should   be  an  evaluation  of  the  students  by  using  the  seniority  system  as  an  indicator  of  an  M.D.  degree  completion.  This  will  make  good  doctors  equipped  with  knowledge,  and  ethics  to  use  in  their  service  to  the  society.4. Comments  and  suggestions.  The  time  given  for  this  course  was  too  short.  The  teacher  should  share  his / her  experience  more.  There  shore  should  be  more  slides  and  teaching  tools.  The  students  should  be  able to  participate  more  actively  in  a  question / answer  period  and  there   should  be  explanations  of  not – so – common  situations  in  order  to  avoid  boredom.  There  should  be  more  lecturers  and  the  course  should  continue  to  be  offered.

ABSTRACT

 Comparative study of VCE and cervical scraping Pap smears of the uterine cervices was done in 470 OPD cases in Srinagarind Hospital from October 1987 to January 1990.  The cervical scraping Pap smear had low sensitivity in detecting endocervical cells and atypical cells when compared with the VCE technique (34.7% and 23.3% respectively), but had high sensitivity in detecting dysplastic cells (72.7%).  However, in the VCE slides the cervical scraping parts © were the most sensitive parts to detect dysplastic cells.

ABSTRACT

Recurrent patterns after radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy fo rcervical cancer stage I and II A were analysed. The data collected from 1976 upto June 30 , 1988 , with the total 218 cases operated. The incidence of recurrence in this series was 9.10% ., 8.40%for stage I B, 19.40% for stage II A and no patient with stage I A recurred. There were 45% with central pelvic recurrences, 15% with pelvic sidewall recurrences , 15% with intraabdominl recurrences and 25% with distant recurrences. The recurrent rate in squamous cell carcinoma was 9.09% and adenocarcinoma 16.13% Those who had positive lymph nodes recurred in 15.20% and those who had negative nodes recurred in 8.10 % The treatment after recurrence will be presented.

ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: At present, elderly Thais rapidly grow both in number and longevity of life which effect Thai population structure, dependent ratio, and health services system. Mahasarakham province, no doubt has been confronted these problems. The Mahasarakham elderly studies review the relevance to understanding the elderly in Mahasarakham context including the exploration of research gaps and strategy in regards to health improving among the elderly. To review Mahasarakham elderly studies we divided into 6 parts; (1) general information, (2) elderly and their family, (3) the elderly potential, (4) quality of life, satisfaction and factors related, (5)  the elderly happiness and (6) the elderly social welfare.Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study by reviewing all of Mahasarakham elderly studies in 2007 in Faculty of Medicine, Mahasarakham University. Total studies were 6 parts which all of these are cross-sectional study. Results: Most of the elderly are female, widow, completed primary school, had low income since the childhood by government standard. Most of the elders perceived their health status as moderate level and more than half of the elders had chronic diseases. However, there were 70.9% of all elderly samples who were family leaders and their family role was moderate level. This study found the elderly were highly respected in cultural Thai level, especially in the areas of Thai culture, Thai and E-san tradition and handicrafts. This study also found the elderly perceived their quality of life and life satisfaction as in good level, factors related were community participation, family relationship, health status, self esteem. The same as happiness level, the elderly perceived happiness level as high level; factors related were self esteem, education level, community club member, community participation and number of family member. Besides, the elderly perceived their social welfare in part of government living allowance and health insurance as high as well. This study also found urban elderly perceived the social welfare level better than rural elderly. Most of the elderly needs social welfare in aspects of financial and health support.Conclusion: Even through more than half of Mahasarakham elderly have chronic diseases, this study found the elderly potentially perceived their quality of life, life satisfaction, and happiness as in high level and important factors related such as community participation were satisfactory. The elderly perceived well of social welfare in respects to government living allowance and health insurance. Improving the elderly health is needed to explore as well as educate the elderly in the area of social welfare especially among rural elderly.Keywords: Thai-elderly, quality of life
